Fabian picked us up at our apartment in El Centro and drove us through the Cajas to the family ranch. We were served a delicious breakfast in front of the fireplace before starting on our hike. The pace was perfect for the altitude, and Fabian is very knowledgeable about the fora, fauna, geology, and history of the Cajas. Despite the intermittently wet weather, we enjoyed the beauty of this area and Fabian’s family ranch. Lunch was delicious sopa and trout. After lunch, another short hike before we headed back to Cuenca. Upon our return, I realized I left my camera in Fabian’s car; he was very accommodating to assure its return! Can’t say enough about Fabian and Rancho Hermanos Prado—highly recommended!

We were picked up punctually at our door in Cuenca. Beautiful scenery on ride to Ranch.
We were met graciously with juice, coffee, breakfast served as we wajted for them to light a nice fire in the area we were sitting. The hike with Fabian was about 4 miles and the scenery was spectacular. His knowledge of the flora was extensive and he stopped often for us to rest (very high altitude). Upon return, we were served a lovely fresh trout lunch and cerveza was available. In in all, a perfect day.

The Cajas National Park is a wonder! Rancho Prado is a good spot to stop for lunch. Typical Ecuadorian fare, nothing fancy, but well prepared and priced. Make it your destination.

A wonderful warm welcome from the Prado family. We were picked up in Cuenca and driven to the ranch meeting more family and taken for a two hour hike in the gorgeous Andes with wonderful views of their property with lots of small lakes filled with trout for the keen fisher person. After the hike, we returned to the restaurant for a lunch of fresh trout and a warm open fire. After lunch, we explored a bit more, then returned to hear the talents of this musical family playing Ecuadorian music. Their warmth and genuine desire to share this wonderful place made for a utterly pleasurable day. Thanks so much for a great day!

We are three friends from Australia and visited Rancho Hnos Prado today. We were picked up punctually in Cuenca by Fabian and Wilson and enjoyed a fantastic day of hiking through the mountains and lakes followed by lunch of beautiful fresh trout with hot chocolate and canelazo. The whole family was warm and welcoming and we enjoyed their music around the fire. We felt so comfortable with the time spent with them as they are the real deal without any tourist hype. Thanks for a wonderful day. Delanie Morrison, Australia
