Part of this compound remains an active monestary. There are several very different worlds at play here. It all in spanish. The tran1uility of the inner courtyards is wonderfil. It was about $3 per person. Catch it durning a rainy afternoon to watch the water come off the roof onto the plants in the lush courtyard.

This beautiful building has been renovated to house a lovely collection of sacred 17th-
19th century art. The renovation has made it safe, with well lit display areas, carefully tended court gardens, clean restrooms but has not altered the charm and historic value of the building itself. Well worth the modest admission price, even in a city full for free museums.

THis museum comprises a small part of a still active convent. The twenty or so rooms on two levels surrounding an interior courtyard contain a history of convent life in the 17th to 19th centuries. You can see clothing, cookware, personal objects such as dolls and serving ware, statuary and paintings. Most of the rooms contain some english explanation on their signs. All the while a solumn Gregorian Chant is playing in the background, setting the mood. For $3.50 you can spend a couple of engrossing hours here.

I loved touring this museo of antiquities and art. The peaceful music, beautiful courtyard and amazing ancient art made this location my very favorite spot in all of Cuenca! I highly recommend this Museo.

Get up close to Cuenca's past. This is a quirky little place we dropped into while waiting for our dinner reservation. Many exhibits from Cuenca's religious past. All unique and original pieces. This is the real stuff. No fakes or reproductions.
