I went on 2 hikes in the area. One was to Lago Torre to get a ground view of the lake and surrounding panorama. The other was a hike to a Piego Tumbado (?) which was a largely uphill hike to get an amazing elevated view of the lake and Cerro Torre. Both hikes were enjoyable and the area in general was spectacular.

As mentioned before, the weather can be the worst enemy for this hike.
The wind was incredibly strong building some nice waves on the Laguna Torre...
It is not a difficult hike but, at least in the approach, the wind can really make it harder.

Nonetheless the view is just fantastic and makes any difficulties disappear from our minds.

Trekked from El Chalten to Cerro Torre during a recent visit. The trail back was easy to moderate in intensity but, due to the weather, a strong head wind pushed hard against us as we neared the Laguna Torre. We we cleared the last moraine the site was truly amazing as the wind was driving the calved icebergs toward us. Ice that had been driven ashore was perfectly clear. Take the alternate route back that leads you north of town for some great views of the river valley.

As in real nature you are always dependent from the weather conditions, we weren't able to the the summit from the lake...
But it is still a great scenery with the clouds passing by and the hike up is just great and enjoyable.
We took the morning bus from El Calafate and this trip is the perfect start in the area with the half day remaining.
According to the park rangers the return trip takes 6 hrs. This is true, good hikers can make it 4 1/2 hrs.

We only had 2 days in El Chalten, so we decided to do the 6hr trek to see Corro Torre.

It was a fairly easy trek, and mostly flat.

There were beautiful views all along the route, and the lake at the end was a wonderful blue, and you got a great view into the mountains and the glacier.

If you're in the area, I would recommend doing this trek.
