The hotel was clean, friendly and well run. Attentive even. The dinner menu is also a masterpiece. The 4 poster style beds were actually really comfortable and we slept very well. The rooms were spacious which was also pleasant. But no lifts, but then the exercise was good for me (4 flights of stairs) and the shower in our daughter's adjacent room always baffled her, despite help. Love the granit and flint bathrooms !!

From the hotel's rooftop you can see the whole Potala Palace, which at night looks amazing. The staff in the hotel was reqlly really helpful and attentive with us. The building is beautiful, no lift of course because it's Tibetan style. The room also local decoration and had a lot of details: electric heater, slippers, bathrobe, tea, kettle… The breakfast was ok and the food was fantastic (brought from House of Shambhala). I would really reccommend this place for your stay in Lhasa!

We stayed here for the first 3 nights after arriving Lhasa from Xining.

Located in the old town and next to a residence community, but quiet and peaceful. Good location as it is only 3-5 min walking distance to Jokhang Temple , Barkhor Street, local market and main road (Beijing East Road) where there are many shops and restaurents. We even walk to Potala Palace on the first night (about 20 min). But we were lost while on the way back and ended up at the other hotel House of Shambhala which is under the same management of Shambhala Palace, however the staff just brought us back (3 min walk).

The Hotel has Tibetan atmosphere, but no lift, we were fortunate to have 2 rooms at the ground floor; otherwise we will have to a bit of a problem if you are struggling with the altitude. The wifi was good. Staff were accommodating and friendly, some speaks fluent English, I used to talk to them till midnight to get more knowledge about Tibet. The breakfast were simple, cooked to order, but delicious.

There is a roof terrace where you can have a nice view of Potala Palace. Guess that's where the hotel's name from.

The room is spacious, comfortable with heater and TV. The light is just right, not too bright. Water pressure and hot water is good too. However the bed is a bit hard for some of us, so we requested the hotel to add more mattress.

We were glad that we stay in this hotel beside the location, Tibetan local colour and decorations, friendly staff, its only 5-6 meters from the hotel entrance to the room especially after a day of tour.

We booked into this hotel expecting a 4 star hotel or better, with a bit of local colour and atmosphere. While it had lots of Tibetan atmosphere it has the characteristics of a two start hotel. There was no lift - a bit of a problem if you are struggling with the altitude - no heating in the rooms, very little room for storing your cloths etc. An altogether eccentric offering. In our room there were insufficient power points to operate the TV and Wifi at the same time, poor lighting etc, etc. Also as the hotel is located at the end of a small alley in the old part of the city you need a very good sense of direction to find it. No taxi's operate near the hotel due to the constraints of the laneways in the old city. On the upside, you are within walking distance of the Jokhang Temple and the centre of the Tibetan quarter of the city.

Room Tip: Probably best to get a room on the lower floors.
