I stayed in this hotel 4 times during my last year's trip to Tibet. Staff were very friendly. The rooms were big and beds were comfortable. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the hotel is located in a walking distance to Barkhor Street and Potala Palace. The strength of WIFI reception varied in different part of the hotel though. I also had a dramatic check-in for my 4th visit. The hotel was fully booked on that day and staff were a bit disorganised. The first two rooms I were given actually already occupied by guests and I had a shock to walk into the 1st room to see the TV was on with clothing spreading in the room, and walked into the 2nd room to find someone else's luggage standing on floor. I had to drag my luggage back to the reception twice from different floors. The receptionist decided to go with me for the 3rd time in case it was again not an empty room. Finally, it was an empty room but bathroom was leaking. I had to take it since no spare room left. BTW, the balcony on top floor provides a nice angle to film Potala palace from distance.

The Dekang is on the edge of the central part of the city. It is about twenty minutes by foot to the palace. If you like to walk, depending on the traffic, you can get there faster walking than using wheeled transport. Very good value for the cost.

In Tibet's standard, instead of 3-star, I would say it's a 4-star hotel in terms of money paid vs service received.

What I like about it:
1) Close to the famous Barkor Street (5 minutes walk)
25 minute walk to Potala Palace (Potala Square)
2) Grocery stores nearby if you need to buy drinks/water
3) There are two restaurants in front of the hotel. The hotel itself also has a restaurant.
4) Friendly staff
5) Good breakfast (both Chinese and western style)

What I don't like about it:
1) The room is a bit dark even with all lights on.
2) Only one elevator in the hotel

Thank you for sharing your experience of staying here. It is highly appreciated. Travelers can book hotels of Tibet easily rather than asking any travel agency to package everything to sell you with sky high prices with their profit. For the coming up tour year, foreign travelers can diy Tibet tour easily with most accommodation booked in advance. If the hotel price is high on booking dot com, or agoda dot com, travelers may get better deal with the local direct booking agent. regarding how to travel Tibet in a budget, travelers can refer to ExploreChinaTibet "dot" Com.

This is a genuinely Tibetan hotel, well located near the old city, on a quiet side street with useful stores further along and also around the corner. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Some bathrooms have clean-water-leak problems; check the bathroom first if you have a choice in rooms. The breakfast included in the room rate is very good indeed.

The rooms were great nice decor - ok few dodgy electric points and a bit of a leaky bath but the location is terrific so close to the johkang square and the shops and restaurants .. i liked the interior and the creaky floorboards in the dining area. Staff were helpful finding umbrellas and omlettes .sure it wasnt busy during our stay but maybe the breakfast bar could do with a reorganisation to be more friendly..
