We stayed here for one night on our way out of the country, after visiting another city. On the positive side, the location is very near Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and other sites. The breakfast was good and the lobby area is magnificent. On the not so positive side, the rooms are tired. Our shower had a bath mat with obvious ugly black stains that made us nervous to stand on it (mold? mildew? bacteria?). The staff was not friendly and avoided greetings or even eye contact, unlike our experience elsewhere in China.

The good thing about this hotel is its location, near key sites and with good local food and affordable shopping a stone's throw away. The building is also rich in history and has a magnificent banquet hall. The problem however lies in the rooms which seem to be in a time warp and seen better days. The furniture looked tired and the decor was dated. Chinese tea in the room though complimentary tasted terrible. I think a renovation is needed to restore this hotel to its former glory.

This hotel is very well located in the heart of the city.
Quite huge, the service is not really personnalized
Confortable but the rooms are a little bit old.
An old generation hotel.
Interesting to stay for some days

Room tip: Upper is better

The room was clean and tidy. The beds were comfortable too.
I stayed for two weeks for work. Sometimes I just needed to stay in the room to get work done, so I put 'don't disturb' on the door. They kept knocking on the door and calling to see when they could clean the room. One time I was in the shower. And once I walked back to my room at about 7pm and someone in a hotel uniform was wandering around the room (with no cleaning equipment or anything, just a random visit). It's not a good place if you're travelling alone and a woman.
The receptionist staff are also exceptionally rude and they take an enormous deposit for mini-bar charges upfront even if you've already paid for the room.

We booked a 5 star hotel and got a 2 star. Rooms big but needs to be redone. Bathrooms small and shabby. Reception shocking.....a group was checking out at 06h00 with only one receptionist in attendance. No concierge service. No maps. Breakfast OK. Location fantastic. Considering what you can get for this money in China - this one is nowhere near the standard we have received for the same money.
