Description: Little Yunnan is a charming courtyard restaurant with outdoor seating near the Forbidden City, Houhai Lake, Nanluoguxiang and Art Museum, tucked away in the hutongs. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, perfect for relaxing with friends, visitors and tourists, and romantic dinners. Yunnan food is exotic, slightly sweet, spicy and sour, and is often described as the Thai food of China. Little Yunnan brews its own rice wine. Definitely one of must-see places when you visit Beijing.

“Cosy place with excellent food”
Reviewed 1 week ago via mobile

Original dishes, cosy interior and friendly service. The only reason I did not rate 5 stars is that during our second dinner we had here the fried potatoes were undercooked, just too raw. We tried to explain this to the non English speaking staff which in the end worked. They then took the potatoes back to the kitchen and explained via a translation app on their phone that they were recooking them. Pretty soon the potatoes came back but will still undercooked. We did not feel like sending them back again and just enjoyed the rest of the food. Two days before we had the same potatoes which were then perfectly cooked so it was not the case that they ment to cook the potatoes in this way. It was all excellent for the rest.
The home made rice wine was also surprisingly tasty. Just go there!

“Great service, but the food is so so”
Reviewed 2 weeks ago via mobile

We had a lovely evening, but expected much much more of this place since it had such great reviews. The food is average: we had better in most Chinese restaurants. Prices are similar to other tourist restaurants, but to high in our view in light of the mediocre food. The service is super fast, so don't expect a nice long evening out. We've seen couples come and go within 45 minutes. The staff is super friendly though and the place has a nice atmosphere.

“Unique delicious meal. Must try!”
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Suggestion from a local American born Chinese. So glad that he made the recommendation as it was one of our three best meals in Beijing (see other reviews for Grandma’s House and Jin Ding Xuan).
Unique menu with dishes from the Yunnan region. Atmosphere is fabulous and adds to the experience. We enjoyed:
• Beef and mint salad
• Pork belly and mushrooms
• Spring rolls
• Jasmine flower fried rice
• Snow pea shoots/tips
• Beef with potato, chili …
The combinations were delicious and a fantastic food experience. Highly recommend that you work this into your Beijing trip for lunch or dinner.

“One of the places I wish to visit again”
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We ate here several times during my short time in Beijing. Both Little Yunnan restaurants are very nice and the atmosphere is great and cozy. We had a great time talking to the owner, Ray, who has been very helpful during our stay in Beijing.

On top of that, the food is excellent and truly a Yunnan experience. Especially the mint & beef salad, the fried mushrooms, and the fried beans were our favourite.

To conclude, we would recommend both branches of Little Yunnan to everyone going to Beijing and we'll further promote its dining experience here in Holland!
