This resort is located inside the Masai Mara reserve. The tents are well furnished. It is chill at night. The tents have to be zipped and locked to prevent entry of baboons, so if you are not able to kneel down, you might want to try somewhere else. The restaurant has limited options, but whatever is available is very tasty. Staff are friendly and helpful.

My wife and I stayed here for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon safari and honestly we couldn't have picked a better lodge/camp!

The location of the camp is perfect. It is just a short stroll from your tent over the little suspension bridge and you are stood in the national park!! You can see the herds of gazel, wildebeest, zebra, giraffes while you eat and we woke up to buffalos grazing on the grass near the restaurant one morning and saw elephant tracks in the river bed (all closely watched by the masai guards who also escort you from your tent in the dark).

The staff here are excellent they are so friendly (like almost all kenyan's we met) and couldn't do enough for us. I really like the fact that over 90% of the staff come from the nearby village of Talek.

The food is of a high standard and we found it to be by far the best of all the lodges we stayed at. They were conscious of allergies and likes/dislikes too. We took breakfast to eat in the bush most days which was a box of goodies and a big flask of coffee and some juice.

The tent was huge! Right on the Talek river. Comfy bed, hot shower that we could have stayed in for ages plus the optional outdoor shower! The hot water bottles in bed while we had dinner was a lovely touch as it gets cold in the mara at night.

Oh and if you like birdwatching there are birds everywhere at basecamp! I think they have noted over 200 species they said.

Honestly can't recommend basecamp enough! Thanks to all the staff!

Rob & Michaela

We loved the Basecamp at Masai Mara and we were so excited of staying at Obama Tent (now I can tell everyone that I’ve already slept on Obama’s bedJ).
This place was magical, so peaceful and natural. The river view from our tent was simply amazing. The tents are secure, clean and comfortable.
At night we were strongly protected by the Masai guards…and they really have hard work…one night I wake up and there were getting leopards away from the resort.
It’s common to see animals on the river, during the night, drinking water and sometimes trying to cross the river, but there’s always a Masai vigilant to guard your tent.
By morning they escort you to the breakfast with a smile and full of stories to tell you about the adventures of previous night and show us the
Special mention to Ben, which served us every meals with a smile.
All meals were so good, diverse and tasty and the everyday soups were delicious , even my kids loved their soups.

Dear Lud,

We certainly appreciate your feedback about your recent stay with us and are pleased that you enjoyed our accommodations, as well as the service from our team! Indeed, getting the opportunity to watch as the wild animals go about their day in their natural habitat during a walking safari is an amusing and perhaps the most rewarding moment in the Mara. We look forward to another opportunity to create a memorable experience for you.
