Eagle view is a wonderful camp, but sadly missing the personal touches and warmth of other camps. I’ve divided this review into pros and cons.
+Guide: Our guide Derrick was absolutely the best part of staying at Eagle View. This guy is knowledgeable, passionate, and a tremendous asset to Eagle View. In our entire time in East Africa, Derrick was by far the most memorable person we met. The amount of wildlife he showed us was incredible! Derrick is absolutely the perfect guide!
+Views: Eagle View is perched high above the Mara in a spectacular setting. The view is astonishing!
+Common Areas: The reception, dining area, and firepit area are well maintained and luxurious!
+Bush Dinner: While it is an extra expense at 55 usd per person, finishing our game drive with a fire and dinner under the stars in the conservancy was so memorable. I highly recommend this experience.
+Wildlife: Mara Naboisho’s wildlife is diverse and abundant. We saw lions on every game drive including cubs on 3 game drives. Wow!
-Food: To put it simply, the food was overly ambitious. It was almost as if the chef tried too hard to put a twist on food that was unneeded. For example, one evening the side was mashed potatoes. The chef decided to put orange in the potatoes, and it was terrible! In addition, we had a vegetarian in our group. She was offered the same dish EVERY night, coconut vegetables and rice. Despite asking for more variation, it was served to her every meal!
-Service: Reception and dining staff lack warmth. While they are not rude, they are cold and not personal. Other camps we visited were memorable because of the staff, but not here.
-Tents: We were a group of 4 in two tents. My biggest complaint about Eagle View was that one tent was reserved as an annex tent, far less spacious and luxurious. These tents are not pictured on the website. The camp was fully booked, and we were unable to change tents. My greatest recommendation to anyone booking Eagle View is to request a full size tent. The two placed in the annex tent were very disappointed!!! I do not feel the annex tent is of the same value as a regular tent. Very unfortunate we were not told in advance!
Despite the absolutely wonderful and perfect guide Derrick, Eagle View falls short. With proper training and service, this camp has the potential to shine. Sadly, other less luxurious camps impressed us more because of the service we received. The annex tent should also not be the same price as the tents advertised on the website.
