Owner description: The Karura Forest Reserve is an urban upland forest on the outskirts of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. This remarkable geographical location and natural resource is one of the largest gazetted forests in the world fully within a city limits. It covers an area of about 1,000 ha (2,500 ac) and today is a shining example of how country-based corporate social responsibility and individual philanthropy can serve to secure and protect a country's natural resources. The forest offers eco-friendly opportunities for Kenyans and visitors to enjoy a leafy green respite from the hustle and bustle of the city to walk, to jog, or simply to sit quietly and experience the serenity of nature in all its diversity.
Useful Information: Bathroom facilities, Wheelchair access, Food available for purchase

Great place to spend a day out esp with kids. You can go for walks in the beautiful forest or hire bicycle (they always to seem to have plenty to choose from).
Every time we are in Nairobi and have time to spare... it's always a must visit.

Karura forest is very close to Nairobi the capital city of Kenya, it's quiet, the tranquility amazing, birds are encountered in rapid sequence,in a walk of two hours we managed to record and see colourful and interesting forest birds, also in the list were forest antelopes the harvey's duiker and a suni.

Great hike, wear tennis shoes during the rainy season (April/May) because it gets muddy/slippery. Saw monkeys, beautiful birds, bats, and many other animals during our hike.

Really one of the best experiences I had among the 20+ countries I've visited.
It is amazing how you can reach a forest just a few minutes from the city and then you walk inside it and you are totally lost in nature and feels far away from the noise of the modern life! loved it.
