I have been to the Tamarind many times, but last week resulted in me speaking directly to management -- something I have never done anywhere before. Our food was outstanding, as usual, and on that basis I still highly recommend the restaurant. In the past, I have always been impressed by the service. But this time I came with my son, whom I brought to Kenya as a graduation present, and this was real treat from him. Dinner started fine, but then took over 2 1/2 hours. A party of 12 came in 1/2 hour after we did, after we had ordered our main course. After we ordered dessert, we were left ignored and stranded. The other party were served appetizers, a main, and dessert, and then paid and checked out before the floor manager noticed that something was wrong at my table. We were finally served dessert, which I honestly don't remember much about because I was frankly insulted. Nothing was done to make amends. Sorry Tamarind, but you fell flat on your face this time. ALL customers count, not just the ones with the big tab.

Hello
We would like to thank you for taking the time to advise of your recent meal at Tamarind Nairobi. It was extremely disappointing to read of your unsatisfactory experience especially as you had been to Tamarind many times before added to which this was a special occasion for your son's graduation. While you indicate in the review that overall the food was good we are troubled to hear of the poor service. As you point out, you have always been impressed by the service but on this occasion you were ignored and stranded after ordering your dessert then waiting as a party of 12 came in after you and were seated and served quickly before the floor manager noticed something was wrong at your table. The restaurant is known for its food and service and it is certainly discouraging to hear that we fell way short of our customer service mark, which is to provide the best for each and every one of our guests. It is only through feedback such as yours that we are able maintain and indeed where necessary improve upon the services that we provide and we thank you for your valuable comments. These have been passed on to the team concerned and even with our sincerest apology, the outcome of your disappointing meal will not be altered on this occasion. Non-the-less I hope that you will give us another chance and visit us again in the near future. Kind regards Geraldine

Lovely lunch on the terrace as it started to rain..... What a super place - history, delicious food, charming service, pretty gardens. My son had peri peri prawns and I decided on the tempura version, both fantastic. Highly recommended.

My wife ordered a salad with chicken. That was very well done and delicious. My order on the other hand must have dumfounded the chef. I ordered fish....Tilapia fillet it was. Even the most basic of seasoning...salt and pepper...was too difficult for the chef. Melted butter with nothing infused in it...was it too hard to add some garlic. Simply put...the fish was bland...boring and damn near tasteless. I had to add lots of lemon to give it some semblance of even the most basic form of taste. My redeeming grace was the few times my wife let me try her salad. For dessert...I had the sorbet and my wife the cheesecake. These were both melt in your mouth awesomeness.

It took ages for the waiter to find us some pepper....apparently it is kept inside this huge contraption at the bottom of the store. By the time they had found the pepper, we were done with our first course which was some really nice soup.

The grounds...well manicured and serene. They do however need to invest in more activities for children beyond the bouncing castle.

Lastly, there were some nice paintings on offer by local artists at reasonable prices for the talent displayed. So, other than possibly the WORST fish fillet I have ever had, it wasn't too bad an exeperience. Stay away from the fish fillet and you will be good.

Dear Mr Kabubu, Thank you for the review. We are very sorry to hear your experience was not the best and that although your wife's meal order was delicious, your order of fish fillet was bland, boring and near tasteless. However while we are glad your desserts were awesome and your soup was nice, obviously we fell short in the service department with regards to finding you pepper for your first course. .We sincerely appreciate your valuable feedback and just to let you know we have passed your comments on to the chef and the rest of the team and are actively working to improve service levels and ensure the food is exemplary. Although an apology will unfortunately not alter the outcome of your experience on this occasion we do extend it with all sincerity and hope you will give us another chance and visit us again. Kind regards Geraldine
