I had a great time at the Tropicana Lagoon. The quiet and all the starfish by the restaurant on the water was so exciting. Our villa was so quiet and the yards were so well maintained. The staff were all so helpful and friendly making it a pleasure to stay there. I will go back and stay again. :-)

Tropicana Lagoon was a nice place to stay. Everyone was lovely & nothing was to much trouble. (I was worried about my food allergies but everything was perfect). So many star fish to see. We will be back

I stayed at the Tropicana for 10 days with my sister and daughter who was competing at the Melanesian Games in May of this year. The resort was within walking distance of the track so very convenient. The accommodation setting was just fantastic. We had a suite overlooking the pool and had a dip most days. The food was extremely good at the restaurant . If you are looking for an authentic island stay then this is the place for you.

Room tip: Wonderful views of the lagoon.

The Tropicana Lagoon Resort is a great place to stay if you are looking for low key and self-contained large rooms.
It is approx. 20 min drive from the Airport and will cost you $200v per person to get you from the Airport to the resort. It is located on the outskirts of town / the centre of Port Vila, too far to walk so you need to catch one of the local Mini Vans which double as buses, for around $150v per person per trip.

The resort is located on a beautiful part of the lagoon, with a great view across to the local village. We visited several other resorts along the lagoon but we preferred our location the best because of its close proximity to the lagoons edge, with a private beach, excellent restaurant, clean and clear swimming pool and grounds which were very well presented (sand beach raked and gardens tended to every day).

There is a large well stocked supermarket a short 5 min walk away and in the same direction there is a local fruit and veggie market another 5 min walk away. So you can easily buy everything you need to cook and feed yourself, if you do not wish to eat out every night.

The staff at the Tropicana were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay, making us feel welcome, special and cared for.
“Humility” currently manages the resort and did a brilliant job of catering to all our queries and resolving our issues.
“Alec” is an excellent Chef and can cook anything well / or just as you request it, in his picturesque restaurant located over the water.
“Richard” makes one of the best coffees on the island and one of the meanest cocktails for sipping by the pool.
“Albert” is the resorts preferred bus driver and as such took us from and to the airport and drove us everywhere we needed to go during our stay, even a late night trip to the hospital! He was very humble and honest in his approach.

The rooms are a little dated, but clean and comfortable. We had an Upstairs Deluxe Corner Room which was a perfect size for two. It was very spacious and airy and came with a good sized balcony. The king size mattress was firm and of good quality ensuring a good sleep. The linen drop down netting was very romantic and function for keeping the bugs out.
The kitchen had a gas hob and microwave and plenty of pots, pans and utensils to allow you to cook up a feast.

The facilities within our room were dated and we did have issues but where possible, these were resolved promptly, they even offer to move us to another better room but we were happy once they resolved the issues.

In our case we experienced the following issues:
Only one burner on the gas hob worked and the self-ignition system did not work so you need to use matches (a ready supply provided for free from the office) to light it. The shower nozzle leaked and was very loose and the hot water supply was irregular. There was no plug in the bathroom vanity unit so you could not fill the basin with water. The fridge door shelves were broken so you could not store tall bottles easily in the little fridge. The built in DVD player in the TV did not work so we were given a brand new DVD player to connect to the TV and use.

Some nights and mornings we were woken by roosters, pigs and/or dogs, but we found this to add to the charm of the place and we got used to it after a couple of nights. All the resorts along the lagoon would have had the same noise issue.

Our room was always kept neat and clean and if I ever needed anything (i.e. I ran out of matches for the gas stove once, WiFi password, DVD’s, extra towels etc), we always received the required supplies promptly.

There were several long-term tenants staying in the resort when we were there and they all stated that this was one of the best resorts along the lagoon and was great value for money.

In summary – We loved our stay at the Tropicana and would go back and stay there again. It was great value for money and the amazing staff made up for the tired facilities.

Room tip: We liked the upstairs corner rooms as they had balconies and great views.
