“Excellent choice for accommodation in Niue”
Reviewed 21 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Our small family of 3 has just spent 10 happy days in Niue staying at the Stone Villa. Fantastic hosts, house and island. Thank you Ida and Albert for our stay in your holiday house and for inviting us to the South Alofi Marine Day and sharing your food and hospitality with visitors.

The island is a coral atoll in the Pacific and feels very apart from the rest of the world - a strange and wonderful place. The sea tracks, sharp rocky paths and ladders can be pretty rough and I think kids who are good walkers and reasonably fit adults would like it the most. The seawater and snorkelling is beautiful but also has its dodgy moments with tidal surges, rogue waves and rips in the channels so everyone needs to be a competent swimmer. Having said that there are lovely safe (deep) rockpools like Avaiki Cave which are cut off from the sea at low tide. The climate in winter is great - about 25 in the day and comfortably cooler at night.

Every cove, cave, canyon, sea track and beach felt different and every day held new delights. It's a great place for a holiday and still feels mildly adventurous. Our cool quiet villa was lovely to come home to every afternoon and was perfect.

“Wonderful friendly and convenient. Highly recommended”

We stayed here for a week in June. Hosts were very friendly, and the accommodation is nice and close to town. Talking to other visitors, having a washing machine and dryer is a real bonus. The other bonus is NO roosters! Other visitors were complaining about being woken up at 3am by roosters, but Ada and Albert's kids apparently catch chickens around their place and relocate them up the road ... So no roosters sifting about. Very clean and comfortable, would definately stay again.

Liked best: Quiet
Liked least: It's a bit dim inside the kitchen, a light above kitchen bench would be good for middle age failing eyesight. Or we should not get up in the dark.

“Stone Villa's The place to stay in Niue”
Reviewed 14 June 2015 for a stay in April 2015

From the moment Albert picked us up from the airport and took us to Stone Villas were we met Ida and their family we knew this was the place to stay. We stayed in the front villa which was cleaned daily except for Sundays had a good range of cutlery etc a big fridge a washing machine and dryer in fact everything you needed. Albert and Ida would leave bannanas, papaya, water melons and coconut for us nearly everyday. The villa was very clean. We loved being enclosed by the bush as it made the villa nice and cool. We also loved the gekos which some how seemed to creep their way in. Having a vehicle come with the unit was a real bonus as we explored the island in it just have to fill with petrol when you leave. Stone Villas was close enough to the main centre to be able to walk to the shops and restaurants and also to the snorkelling/swimming places in the village. The thing we liked best was it was very peaceful and homely even though it was bigger than were we come from.

“"The" Place to Stay in Niue”
Reviewed 4 January 2015 for a stay in November 2014

Not fond of hotels? First time in Niue? This was the case for me, and I couldn't have picked better. The place is beautifully decorated, has a proper and very well-maintained kitchen with clean and new cutlery, china and cookware, a proper full-sized fridge and--oh joy--a proper washing machine and dryer! Also, there's a great shower, nice TV (which I didn't even turn on), fans and mosquito screens on all the doors and windows. There is a nice large couch (could easily be slept in) and proper 4-person wooden table, and even a wireless phone with a private line and local number (though calling Niue is sometimes not possible from certain countries). Albert was very welcoming, available and friendly, and also brought me fresh coconuts and papaya, and offered me clean towels regularly. A great, great bonus: the automatic rental car, in great shape, that I didn't have to rent myself because Albert had it ready for me! I just parked it at the airport parking lot on the last day! Only drawbacks: I could hear cars driving on the road very close by, as I was on the first cottage closest to the road. Fortunately Alofi isn't really a "city", and the traffic is pretty light and dies down later at night. Also, internet (in all of Niue, I'm afraid) is patchy at best, and very limited in bandwidth, so--no streaming, uploading or skype. Pretty much email only. Be prepared wherever you stay: this is a remote, remote corner of the Earth (and really, with all there is to see/experience there, that's a good thing).

“Peaceful an relaxing”

Just spent a week at the lovely Stone Villa’s, and yes it is true what everyone says. What a wonderful place, the accommodation is fantastic. On arrival I was meet by Albert and his son, who then drove me back to Stone Villa’s via town for a tour and to explain where everything was located. Once at the Villa the car keys were handed over and a lovely bottle of wine was presented. Every day the towels were replaced and the bed was made. The Villa’s are located within walking distance of town and restaurants which is a bonus so you can stock up with grocery’s if need be or eat out every night. I actually went to Niue to do some fishing, but ran out of time as there is so much snorkeling and other things to do. As most people say, 1 week is not enough. Another bonus was beer was half the price of some Auckland bars and one didn't want to get dehydrated, say no more. If you are looking for a relaxing place for a holiday away from those crowded overpriced resorts then Niue is the place to go. The locals are extremely friendly and nothing is a problem. It was so nice and relaxing I am aiming to make it in to an annual trip. One thing to note, you definitely need a car to get around to all the snorkeling pools and sea tracks, but at Stone Villa’s it is included. When you leave to come home, just drive to the airport via the gas station, ($35 for the week) and leave the car there.
