The tunnels are quite fascinating, to see the excavation and the civilizations that they have unearth is amazing. They have also built a synagogue there. A must see

We took the straightforward "Tunnel Tour'. it is a simply stunning experience! To all the useful comments in previous reviews (shoes, claustrophobia etc) I'd add that to get the most out of it is best to have some background knowledge of the history before you go in,
Why only four stars, not 5? Our guide was a little bit preachy, which annoyed me (and I am O Jewish!). Her version of history was also a little uncritical, not departing too far from from biblical versions, especially in the early ages (and, for those who understand, mixing in Midrashic info with bible and history). Also - the models displayed at the introductory beginning talk - in itself useful and essential -- were fairly primitive, and could do with some upgrading. All of that pales in insignificance next to the experience of actually exploring the tunnels, and seeing the scale and complexity of the hidden stonework. The Western Wall that is visible and exposed is only the tip of the iceberg (so to speak). The feat of excavation is enormous. And, at long last, the whole area of the Western Wall is being landscaped and renovated. A 'must'.

To walk on the actual ground level of Jesus's day is an amazing thing to do. To realize that He and His disciples traversed this very path along the Wall is humbling and moving. The model of the Temple Mount over the ages is excellent. To stand at the wall nearest the Holy of Holies is amazing. Marveling at Herod's engineering genius is astonishing to behold...

What an exciting walk through these ancient tunnels. This is a true step back in history. We had a very knowledgeable tour guide who was able to provide many details and insights. If you are claustrophobic these tunnels are fairly well lit and fairly large. There are only a few spots where it is a little low and narrow.

We got reservations for the English-language Kotel Tunnels tour. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and gives substantial perspective on what the Western Wall is, where it is located relative to other structures in the old city, and what has been found that provides evidence of the destruction by the Romans 2000 years ago (for those who do not believe there was a Jewish Temple here, you will be very disappointed.)

There are fans throughout the tour path, very helpful in June through September but bring a water bottle anyway.
