We visited this Church of the Virgen Mary which is a functioning greek orthodox church. It is a small church with a spring which they bottle and you can bring home. You can make a small donation to cover their costs for the plastic bottles. A must visit if you are a Virgen Mother devotee.

Visited at the time there was a liturgy. Most beautiful chanting and a very reverent group of Russian, Serbian and other ethnic groups in attendance

It's an old orthodox church and monastery with and an interresting story and nice interior . The church offers a spiritual and calm atmosphere. While visiting don't forget to get some water (blessing) from the church's inside cave.

Absolutely gorgeous inside and out. This is a functioning church. The interior and exterior are very attractive and well worth a visit.

There is no entrance fee but you should leave something in the collection box. The parish priest happened to be there at the time of my visit and showed us around.

I went to this Orthodox Church following the recommendation of a priest from Romania. I just knew the name of Vlaherna from one prayer. After a long walk in rain, on 28th of November 2015, we found a peaceful place with very nice and friendly people. We have received the bottle of water from the spring! We spent in silence a few minutes, while we had time to pray, to admire the icons and frescoes.
No matter when I come back to Istanbul, I go again to see this beautiful church.
Great place!
