Owner description: Famed architect Sinan built this majestic structure for one of the greatest rulers of the Ottoman Empire. Although this mosque is less ornate, there are many similarities between it and the Hagia Sophia since the same architect was responsible for both.

The most Beautiful mosque. So much history. Great view. Sultan Suleiman is buried here, together with his mother and one of his children.
There are many wild dogs, but they are sweet

We caught the tram to the Grand Bazaar then it was about a 15 min walk to the mosque. The cemetery outside was filled with purple iris flowers and was well tended and peaceful. The gardens outside the mosque presented stunning views across the Bosphoros. We weren’t able to go inside the mosque as there was a service going on but we felt it was definitely worth visiting just for the views.

Among many mosques in Istanbul, Suleymaniye was some how the most peaceful one, especially it's harem (garden) with magnificent views of the whole city of Istanbul.

The blue mosque happens to be under construction at the moment so visitors aren’t really welcomed, it is more for prayers. I went to this mosque with Free Istanbul Tours (highly recommended too), and was glad I did!

I was told it was the biggest mosque around. Around noon on Sunday, it was practically empty which was great. The courtyard was large, and made for a good quiet sit down.

Headscarfs are free to borrow at the door if you’re underdressed, or for the ladies. Definitely recommend this place - beat the crowd and experience a place of prayer as it is!
