biggest tourist attraction in istanbul
lots of history!
unfortunately I caught the church in remodelations which greatly diminishes the pleasure of the visit, nevertheless it does not invalidate its grandeur!

Breathtaking. Just close your eyes and imagine things that did happen here. The architecture is fascinating.

I travel for culture - the things people create intentionally or as a by product of living. I don’t care about sunsets or mountain passes I care about legacy. Like Haigia Sophia. The things people create to be left for those who follow make my life worth living. So many craftsmen, artists, investors, planners, religious people and communities poured their hearts into this amazing building and its possible to feel their presence if you’re quiet.

I visited very early in the morning then returned when the museum was opened so I saw in different light, dawn and mid morning. (I recommend dawn or at least evening viewing.) The neighborhood and church/mosque/museum are filled to overflowing with the culture of 1500 years. I highly recommend it.

Long waiting lines....a good part of the place was inaccessible due to restoration and the available parts were very crowded. we spent less than half an hour there. but had to wait in line for an hour to get there and also don't forget the tour guides that try to convince you to hire them in order to skip the waiting line.
