We stayed next block so it was easy getting here. We got there at 0830 but line was already a block long. then Mr. Medet YILMAZ approached us for a tour guide. As trotter I don't normally do guide but since I was on a rush I decided to use his service. since this is a layover trip, I didn't have Museum pass. A pass to Hagia Sophia was 40TL and with guide we get a priority entry. It was 100 Euro for 6 of us and he would accept $100, so for about $30 it was worth the cutting line and 30 min expert presentation by Mr. YILMAZ. We got through line in 5 min (inc security) and was in before place was swamped with other tourists. We didn't have to read every note as he had explained so were. it was well worth the money and I thanked him for his service. Hagia being over 1500 years old with both Christian and Muslim heritage it was very unique experience. Walking up to second level was not hard like European churches with narrow stairs, it was a ramp with wide path. If you visit cathedrals and churches or even old historic building, this is a must. Also, don't forget a mosaic on the back side as you exit. They have a mirror by the exit so you don't walk past it.

Visited this church museum which is right in the center of Istanbul Old City Sultanahmet. It is currently under restoration to show the colorful mosaics covered with plaster when it was converted to a mosque. A lot of history in one place.

The museum has got rich history as an institution that had served different religions. The fresco paintings and structures are marvellous, unfortunately there isn't much info or explanation accessible to the visitors. Conservation effort to be improved.

This is one of my favorite locations in Istanbul. It is a beautiful location. It was a church and mosque; it has SUCH a rich history. The architecture is amazing and when you hear how they built it and then all the history since it was built, you wonder how it survived. Be sure to go to the second floor to see the beautiful mosaics of Virgin Mary, Jesus, and St John the Baptist as well as others. The others have interesting features to find...follow the money!

3 hours to get in, you get in quicker if you pay for a guide and they go straight to the front. A total let down once inside not really a museum just a unrepaird building, slowly been fixed. Some people will love fact it's not been done up, but for me a waist of time.
