Owner description: Built between 1609-1616, this impressive mosque has six minarets. Why is it called "Blue Mosque?" There are two stories: the first, more common one is that the interior is covered in Blue İznik tiles. The second is: Many years ago, ancient sailors who sailed by the mosque on the Marmara Sea saw the blue colors of the sea reflected in the mosque.

the idyllic building of Istanbul and possibly the most illustrated
in fact, the visit turns out to be just a way of making contact with the Muslim, because inside the beauty is not great.
in fact, comparing with the exterior grandeur the interior falls far short.

it is imperative to live calmly (at a distance) the call for prayers in the afternoon.
the chant echoes through the city and soul ... chilling!

It is still a functioning mosque, so not a museum. Could get crowded. At on of the gates stroller/wheelchair ramp is provided. Plenty info about Islam is displayed in the yard. Saw many visitors going in while the time was for prayer and signs say don't go in but they still do and not covered as shown in the instructions.

Indeed a beautiful mosque. Perfectly designed. Try to visit early during the day to avoid crowd. Unfortunately lot of renovation was going around when we visited. It also has a beautiful garden outside with lot of tulips

WOW. Very impressive. It was so amazing to see something so beautiful especially when you think about the time it was built.
