Finding Fanari Villa is pretty easy - it's just 200 m from the Ataturk Bridge, 100m from bus stops. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are spacious and clean. My 4 year son loved to pass the reception desk because it meant more sweeties for him every time! The owner speaks very good English, as do the other receptionists.
What makes this place so interesting is that to get there you need to pass through a part of town not usually frequented by tourists, which means authetic Istanbul, and real [not tourist ] prices for things like hot food and Turkish delight. Just go along the side street parallel to the main boulevard, it's much quieter anyway. It's all really safe there any time of the day or night. Fanari Villa offers great value for money in a city where small rooms can be quite pricey. Here you can have a big room at a very reasonable price and very helpful, attentive staff. All of the main sights are within a 20-30 minute walk, and walking in Istanbul is always fascinating, but if you are feeling tired or simply a bit lazy, the buses and trams are cheap and frequent.
