I booked the hotel on 20th January. On 7th January, which was 1 day before the arrival I received a message that hotel has no availability due to them forgetting to close rooms on Booking.com. They offered me with the same email to relocate to La Villa hotel or Askar hotel or cancel the reservation free of charge.

As soon as I received the email I called the reception and advised that both hotel alternatives (La Villa hotel or Askar hotel) that they offer are not located in the center and hence I cannot accept these relocation options. The reception told me to cancel the reservation and they will charge no cancellation fees. When I replied that I booked 1.5 months in advance and it I will not cancel my reservation since I would need to rebook another hotel on a higher price - the receptionist told me that there is nothing more that they can do. When I asked to speak with the manager I was told that she is on holidays and will return in 2 weeks.

Therefore, I had to call Booking.com support team. They took it up from there, called the hotel and spoke with the manager (who was not there as advised by reception). So shortly I received 3 more options that I could choose for the relocation: Old Baku Hotel, Iva Hotel Old City Baku, Sultanahmed Hotel Baku. And while all hotels were indeed centrally located however it is quire unprofessional that 1) the hotel offered to relocate outside of the center and 2) that they lied that the manager is not there and 3) that I had to involve Booking.com.

So we chose the Iva Hotel Old City Baku and when arrived there we discovered that the room is smelling as it was just painted, that they have no working heating, no towels, slippers and that there is a line of dissatisfied guest standing in front of the reception and screaming to them for experiencing the exact same issues with us. We realized that we cannot stay in such a hotel and called back Golden Time Hotel to inform them that we cannot accept such a relocation offer due to the above mentioned factors. They offered then a last alternative that was Old Baku Hotel. And while this hotel is also 4* it is not at the same level as Golden Time Hotel however as it was really late and no other options we accepted this relocation offer and stayed in the Old Baku Hotel.

Overall and while myself I am a hotelier and can understand that sometimes hotel can get overbooked - however on this particular occasion I would not recommend to anyone booking Golden Time Hotel. Avoid this hotel and book something else instead.
