My friend recommended the Highlands day and I went. It couldn't have been bettr. At 6,000 bhat, it is the most expensive one but it is very personalised if you want some one on one time with the elephants. The group was small ( 8 of us) and we spent the day as one that works there would. We fed the elephants, went up the hill with them for about an hour a half and reached a muddy area in which we spread mud over them, then had a wonderful local lunch made by the staff at the camp. After which we went into give them a bath in a man made lake. It was a great experience. The elephants loved it and finlaly we made their treats ourselves ( a mixture of rice, corn, sea salt, etc.) and fed them. This park started years ago by a Thai lady as a rehad center for rescued elephants. Our "donations" help them take care of these and give them a decent life.

We visited the Elephant Nature Park and had a marvelous day. The van picked us up from our hotel and drove us to the ENP. We had 2 other families with us for a total of 10 people in our group. Our guide was Jacky and he was excellent at explaining everything throughout the day. On the way to ENP we viewed a video that explained how they rescue the elephants and the horrific things the elephants have lived through. My husband and I both cried. Once at ENP the day was well organized. Each group was given a table for the day. First, we fed bananas to elephants. Next, we toured the grounds and met several different groups of elephants, water buffalo, and other animals. After that it was time for our vegetarian buffet lunch. The food was some of the best we had in Thailand. Then, we walked to the river to watch 2 groups of elephants bathe before returning to our table for snacks. Last, we went to a different part of the river and our group got to bathe an elephant by splashing water on it with buckets. Our day with the elephants was a lot of fun and we learned a lot about what incredible creatures elephants are.

We were picked up at our hotel and driven by mini-van about an hour. On the way,our guide Prom, gave us information and we watched a video. The abuse that elephants suffer is heart-breaking. Once at the sanctuary, we were briefed as to the day's program and then off to feed and view the elephants. I had booked the "short visit" which still took in lunch and an afternoon river dunking for the elephants. There ARE different activities that the various rescue places engage in so be sure to check what is included if your heart is set on "washing" the elephants. These had all been rescued and are now able to act in more "elephant-like" ways. They are NOT for riding on.They stand quietly for photos and many have foot problems from stepping on mines or having other awful injuries. But it was really heartening to see the love and care that all the people involved, including the visitors, treated the elephants with.

We booked the elephant trails program, which is not in the park itself but at another location. We absolutely recommend this. With a small group of tourists (12 in our group, including children from age 7 and higher) you spend interacting with a group of 5 elephants (small and large). You feed them, walk with them, scrape them with mud, wash them, and even swim with them. You really get close to these very sweet animals during the day. A memorable experience both for us and for our children. Location is also nice, guides are excellent, lunch is basic but fine. Bring old clothes and a towel so you can shower afterward.

Thank you very much for your review.

We are so gad that you liked it. This is part of our saddle off outreach program to help elephant camps improve the life of the elephants under their care.

It is heartening to hear your comments which we appreciate very much.
Thanks
Adam
