This was recommended to us by a lot of people, but we never expected it to be as good as described if not better.
the hotel was magnificent with lovely staff, the rooms were superb and everyone in the hotel knew about everything to do or to experience during our stay.
The food was exceptionally tasty but could get very spicy.
the view from the hotel was heavenly specially at the sunset.

Having spent a week travelling around Myanmar, we were delighted to return to Chiang Mai to spend a few days in the delightful Dhara Dhevi! It was our first time at this hotel, having previously stayed at The Four Seasons, on our other 3 trips to Chiang Mai, but it didn't disappoint. A short 20 mins drive from the airport, and you are transported through the gates of the hotel & into paradise! We stayed in a Colonial Suite which had a separate lounge area & huge bathroom, with a view of the swimming pool which was a few steps from our room! We ate in the Thai restaurant & also attended a bar-b-que on the second night which featured a variety of food including amazing sushi & sashimi from the chef of the newly opened Japanese restaurant! The grounds of the hotel are extensive and you would be advised to hire one of the bicycles to get around! All the staff were very helpful during our stay! All in all a very memorable experience!

Room tip: Colonial suites are very well situated, and not too far from reception

We spent a week at the Dhara Devi in Chiangmai this past Christmas (Dec 2014), part of a three week trip around Thailand and Singapore. During the journey we stayed in a slew of five star properties. The Dhara Devi property, its staff, and the location made for a magnificent Asian experience, and was not only the best hotel on this trip--it is now our favorite property in the entire world.

The property is expansive--a huge complex of traditional Lanna style buildings that surround you in the local culture of northern Thailand. The activities on the grounds further steep you in Lanna tradition--cooking, rice paddies, the water buffalo, the restaurants, the spa.

We can't say enough good things about the staff. Our butler made sure that every need was attended, and that we were seeing and doing the things in the area that we came for in the first place. The hotel drivers were fantastic, and the two pools were relaxing.

The property is the most peaceful place we have ever stayed. The rooms and villas are huge--so much space you feel like you've rented a home. And Chiangmai and the northern territory has the best of large city meets rural countryside--new meets old--modern meets traditional--in all of Thailand.

We read in advance great reports on Trip Advisor, but we were still startled with the magnificence of this property. From the moment we were greeted by Nuch, the Director of Guest relations, we knew we had chosen the right place for our Christmas holiday.

Thank you Dhara Dhevi.

Room tip: We stayed in a villa on the rice paddy, and loved the "residential" experience it offered our family.

I came here to eat dinner at Le Grand Lanna, and stopped by at the front of the hotel to take pictures. It's a lovely place to take photos. I wish I was staying here so I could take more photos inside.

I didn't stay here so I can't comment on the hotel. I'm just giving the outside a 5.
