Our Stay at the Lannah Hill house was a great experience and a really unique opportunity to spend time in a beautiful area with all the modern amenities.
The staff at the Villa were always available and extremely kind, not to mention the delicious food that was prepared on a daily basis! The house boasted scenic views and gave you a feeling of a truly peaceful vacation. The Manager Oppy was just great and was available at all times to help in anything we asked.
I would highly recommend the Lanna Hill House and look forward to my next time there!
We spent five really enjoyable nights at the Lanna Hill House. My husband and friend played golf during the stay. I was just taking it easy - walking around the reservoir with one of the friendly house dogs & reading. It was certainly the highlight of our 3 weeks trip in Asia.
- Location - next to Highland golf course & the reservoir. It's far a way from town but that's what we wanted, very tranquil. Do need a car to travel around.
- Lovely big house - with imposing grand staircase and nicely furnished. It's well equipped to accommodate families with children even the little ones. Favourite spot of the house was the upstairs veranda with lovely views of the layers of hills and water from the reservoir. It's also where we had drinkies. A large lounge and sun room with a table tennis.
- TV - with over 200 channels to select including CNN, BBC & sport channels. Internet speed was very acceptable given so far out of town.
- Bathroom - was a bit dated & the toilet flushed a little loud, however, the house had so many good features which outweighed the dated bathroom.
- Property manager and staff - were very nice and obliging, typical Thai very warm and friendly. The place was so well organised and well run. Credits to Khun Oppy!
- The management had a very good system to support local staff. The profits from dinners and bars would go to staff. Wine and beers were reasonably priced with very low markup. It was purely for guests convenience and extra income for staff.
- Food - we had dinner at home every night. One night we invited four other friends to join us for dinner and the food was delicious. We all enjoyed it very much even our Thai friend said it was really good food. The dinner service was professional and as good as decent restaurants in Bangkok.
My husband was so impressed with the house & staff and this is what he wrote to the property owner "we want to congratulate and thank you on having such a beautiful house at Lanna Hill and for giving us the opportunity to stay there. The staff were without exception excellent for which I guess credit should go to the standout, Oppy. How she manages to get such a good team out in the countryside is amazing.
Khun On (?), the evening chef never failed to impress with her meals. We were so happy that we stayed at Lanna Hill instead of in the city of Chiang Mai and Oppy’s farewell gesture on the last evening with the hot air balloon/lantern will stay with us forever. The annual festival with hundreds of the lanterns must be incredible."
This is an amazing place to stay. From the moment you arrive you feel treated like a royal family. The complete staff is so caring and really makes you feel welcome.
The food and meals are perfect. The cooking staff did a perfect job to prepare a special meal every evening for my husband, who has a no salt diet.
We very very much liked our stay and we will certainly try to come back. Thanks a lot!
We were a group of 10 incl kids. 3 families. This was booked for the group by our friend Manoj. I must say...he chose extremely well!
THE VILLA: Was a bit far from the city...but thats what we wanted. The villa was kept extremely well by the housekeeper and family who live at the small outhouse. The manager, Ms. Oppy, and her team of cooks along with the house keeper, took very good care of us. We felt safe to even leave the kids behind (teen age plus a small boy) when we went to explore the night life on 2 ocassions.
ROOMS : 3 bedrooms upstairs at level 2..(2 king plus 1 twin) all ensuite. 4th bedroom (king) is downstairs level 1. There is a bathroom between the TV room and this 4th bedroom. Once you close the doors to the TV room (glass doors with no curtains) ...you have an ensuite with tv room which has a sofa bed. So a big family can use this space.
The dining room is a 10 seater.
They also have an entertainment room which has table tennis plus many board games plus badminton racquets.
The have a small family cum dining room on 2nd level as well a cozy room right on top (3rd level) which has a small balcony.
A big kitchen managed by the cooks. Kitchen overlooks the pool. Water was pretty cold (nov). Pool is very inviting. Too bad we didnt get much time to enjoy it.
Lawn behind the villa...you can play badminton etc. We got the housekeeper to arrange for a small bonfire for us. (We got some fire crackers from the local market too, so kids had a great time as well!)
BEDS AND PILLOWS: comfy beds. Pillows..had soft ones plus a little but firmer and fluffier ones. We all slept very well.
1 bed room on the 2nd level has a huge bathroom with a tub and the room itself is big enough to fit in 1 extra single mattress with tonnes of space around.
BATHROOMS : The water is hard so expect non perfect showers. This does impact the showers that one uses. Compared to the bed rooms, the bathrooms were a bit dissapointing. But hey, this is not a hotel so some non perfections are expected. Not enough space to keep all out toileteries etc as well...so carry pouches which can be hung on the shower screen to hold your stuff.
The owner has done the bathrooms well...but the hard water has worked its horrors on some tiles and faucets. So pl expect that.
FOOD : Was awesome! The cooks cook well. The villa has its own herb and veg garden..so some stuff is really really fresh.
TRANSPORT : The manager introduced us to an English gentleman (same name as the villa's owner - Richard), who drove us around at an economical rate) in his well maintained 7 seater.
NIGHT BAZAAR : Was a bit dissapointing as we were looking for some exclusive stuff. Pl do research on this. We wasted 1 evening there without managing any shopping as its all standard stuff. I think bangkok's Chatuchat (hope its the correct spelling) market offers better stuff.
ACTIVITIES : Must do the flight of the Gibbon and at least 1/2 day elephant park...ride and wash elephants...plus some temples.
All in all...the Lanna Hill House was a great and happy experience!
The most outstanding feature of Lanna Hill House is that you can lose yourself roaming the many rooms and sitting areas with stunning views. The overall decor is colonial Lanna so it was like something I imagined from an old movie and it took a pinch or two to realize this wasn't a dream. We spent glorious times relaxing in the beautiful gardens with all kinds of exotic flowers and plants making the experience a tropical wonderland. Staff are amazing and spoil you with a friendly and helpful attentiveness. We loved the swimming pool and enjoyed our late afternoon drinks! There is a special play room for kids with table tennis when they are bored of the pool. Rarely happened! I give this stay a robust five stars and I guarantee enchantment. For some of us it was all about the breakfast. We felt like in heaven waking up to the smell of brewing Arabica coffee which was served in a lovely spot overlooking the terrace. There are lots of nature trails to explore as well as numerous tours and adventures if you are willing to venture from what will quickly become a dream home. We wanted to take the staff home because they quickly became family and we still mention them daily. All this was facilitated in the most wonderful way by the very professional and friendly Oppy who manages this paradise. We are currently planning a return because it’s the kind of place that calls you back.
