Owner description: The backpacking district of Khao San Road is the traveler hub of South East Asia. Jam-packed with raucous bars and restaurants as well as budget hostels, it’s a favorite for late-night revelers.

Crammed with bars, music and offers of ping pong shows, I feel like I was about 15-20 years too old for this street. I’m definitely glad I visited it and I think it’s a great place to go and people watch, but be prepared to be inundated with 18 year olds.

We went to Khao San Road on our first evening, and it was lovely, gives you the vibe of Bangkok, all food, mini shops, people selling stuff on the street, bars, it's a nice vibe! For more follow my travel blog Tranneta's Travels

Still crazy and still full of the loudest bars and the most wasted tourists. Lots of people now walk it for the sights and the odd scorpion on a stick.

Visit it in the day and you’ll find a very different place - a quieter but still busy place - the streets lined with shops selling the usual fare before they are replaced by the pad Thai and fried bugs food trolleys at night.

Worth going to at night and day - just to soak up the backpacker side of Bangkok.

Khao San Road used to be one of our favorite spots in Bangkok - lots of shops and street vendors, restaurants, and bars. It was a great place to spend an afternoon. However, we were very disappointed this trip. Maybe everyone was having a bad day, but the street vendors and shop owners were very surly and unfriendly. It's usually fun to barter with them - it's part of the game, and everybody has fun. Not so this time - their prices were higher than in the markets and there was no bartering at all. Some of them were bordering on rude. So we bought absolutely nothing there, and did our shopping at other markets.
