The pictures and first impression of the front lobby are deceiving. This hotel would have been very nice 20+ years ago but it’s dated and needs a lot of money put in to it. The rooms are old, not very clean at all (in between bed frame and lamps and lamp shades are extremely dusty and dirty, carpets are old and stained/burn holes. Beds are ancient (20+year old spring mattress). The price of the rooms and everything else in this place in absolute insanity for what you get - 360 bhat for a large Chang beer at the pool. That is literally double what I would pay even in the US or Canada. $12 for a bottle of beer in a dated old hotel in Thailand, really? And they charge 480 bhat for a continental breakfast at the cafe? They really need to get a reality check and step this place up about 500 percent to be charging what their charging if they want people to return. This is no where near a 5 star hotel. Definitely will not be back.

Only pros—- nice view of the river, and the bell boys and staff are extremely friendly.

A very tired hotel that potentially could be an excellent venue. There are three main poor issues with the hotel:
The staff are generally sulky and lacking in any commitment to welcoming visitors ( the exception being the people on the door who were great). Unlike other hotel staff the ability to understand English is very poor. I know visitors should try to understand some local language but there are a very wide range of international visitors and the fallback language is always English. The staff appear to follow the lead of more senior colleagues so perhaps we can’t blame the younger ones.
Service availability is very poor. Breakfast apart from omelettes cooked in the dining area is cold and tasteless. If you want a drink or ice cream by the pool they only take cash and can’t be put on the room!!! As if you take cash swimming? During the afternoon when we wanted a cake and coffee there was nothing on offer apart from drinks.
Internet is on and off all day with constant Re log ins required.
There is a (tired old) shuttle bus but that only goes to a market. We had been told there was a boat landing platform so access to other parts of Bangkok was possible but for some unexplained reason the hotel no longer allows boats to land there. ( Just as I write this a boat has pulled up at the landing, so this hotel is even more confusing, no idea why it’s here).
On the plus side the rooms are a good size, clean and with good views.

The Hotel was probably very nice about 30 years ago but unfortunately it is now in a very poor state of affairs.
On arrival the Hotel appears to be very dirty on the outside as it has not been cleaned or painted for many years but once you get inside it is clean but very outdated.
Breakfast for a Hotel with this so called calibre was very poor, cheap nasty fruit juices with burnt bacon replaced with more burnt bacon and eggs floating in grease no decent flavoured yoghurts and honey in cheap little plastic containers.
The tennis courts have just been abandoned and left too look an eyesore, one gentleman while we were sunbathing actually went through the floorboards that were rotten around the pool and got his foot stuck in sludge that had obviously been there and not cleaned out for a few decades !!!
The Hotel is miles away from the nightlife of Bangkok and some taxi drivers weren't that keen on taking you back to the Hotel as it took on a couple of occasions over an hour to get into the centre or back.
The staff are very friendly and helpful as they poured your £6 bottle of beer.
Sorry but my advice is to give this Hotel a very wide berth.

Room Tip: Don't book one !!!

I had the opportunity to stay 3 nights in this huge hotel for business and i must say that this is a gem... like the saying goes, " old is gold".

The hotel is definitely "outdated" in terms of outlook, but it is not a bad thing and it doesn't bother me. Cleanliness is top notch.. and this hotel certainly has its unique charm. Food is excellent and very worth the money spent. Chinese restaurant dim sum is top notch.

Location is a little out of the way, but it's only 10 mins drive to Asiatique where there is plenty of food and night market shopping.
