We stayed at the Hyatt for three nights and then decided to come back for another night after our trek as we loved it so much. The service was impeccable (except for the women on the travel desk), lobby area stunning and rooms relaxing. It is such a welcome retreat from the chaos of the city. Ran a bath when we first arrived and brown dirty water poured out but it was fine after letting the water run for a while! I would recommend the hot stone massage in the spa and also the pumpkin tortellini in Rex restaurant- both were outstanding! It is quite far from Thamel, esp at rush hour, but that didn't bother us.

also the pumpkin tortelling

I made a mistake by staying in this hotel after two weeks travelling around Nepal. Although it is clean and well maintained, it is so far from the experience of being in such an interesting country that it could have been anywhere in the world. It's a long way out from the city and even a long walk to the main gates, so you feel trapped in there. Add to that the heavy security all over the grounds and it feels like a luxury prison. There's a high charge on everything you touch, at time unexpected. The stupa side seems to be home to the entire pigeon population of Kathmandu (though I was amazed how quiet they were at night). The spa and massage were good, but pricey. The staff are a bit stern and seem very keen to apportion blame to their colleagues. I was glad to escape to the bustle of the real city.

Also worth noting is that the rates I thought I had booked online bore no resemblance to what I was charged.

Find something more reasonable and characterful in the main city and really experience what Kathmandu has to offer.

The Hyatt is a welcome retreat from the traffic and chaos of Kathmandu. The hotel is located a short walk away from the Bodhpanath Stupa, which was a wonderful starting point for our exploration of the city. Getting a cab to anywhere in the valley was easy, though you had to negotiate relentlessly with the taxi drivers. We chose to stay in a King Stupa View Room, which was well worth the extra money, which was extremely comfortable and spacious. We loved the spacious bathroom and hardwood floors. The only complaint we had about the room was that the CRT TV was a bit outdated. Overall, the common areas of the hotel were very clean, the pool area was excellent (though don't expect the pool water to be heated), breakfast was great, the gym/spa area was above average and the main bar/restaurant Rox was lovely (though at $12 a martini, a bit pricey for Nepal). I would stay here again.

This hotel was the best part of our visit to Kathmandu. The food was good and the location is excellent. I dont think i can find anything better than this in Nepal. Hotel is very close to the airport - about 4-5 kms which saves you from lot of road travelling when you are an international traveller.

This hotel has a good ambience. We were welcomed by musicians playing instruments in the lobby. The decor is absolutely wonderful. The room we got could have been spacious. But it was well maintained and the bathroom was well stocked and large. The stay was a real pleasure. We will stay only here every time we visit Katmandu.

The buffet dinner at the cafe was a bit too expensive, especially since there wasn't much of a choice in the menu. But the breakfast buffet there was very good.
