I just came back from a twelve-day business trip to Maputo, and stayed at Pensão Martins.
I must say that 2250 Mozambican Meticals per/single room is simply overpriced for the hygiene and service provided.
The girls as well as Mr Souleymane in the reception are very friendly, but the manager is an utter useless.
Location is superb. It is located in the heart of Maputo, I could not ask for better location.
However, I have noticed something was wrong with my bedclothes when accidentally I spilled a bit of coca cola on it later that day.
I left early the following morning and I expected to find a new bedclothes later on. Instead I found the same blankets on. I complained at the reception, and they promised to talk to cleaning staff. Surprise, surprise, the following day, the bed clothing remained unchanged. I complained again, they said they had spoken to the Pensao Martins head maid, and she would have resolved it.
The following morning I personally asked the head maid who insisted they had changed the bed clothing the day before. I showed her the stain on the blanket. We argued for a while until she revealed they only wash the bedclothing a few times per week.
Outside Pensao Martins all went well. I think Mozambicans are one of the most polite people on earth.
But the endless problems within Pensao Martins spoiled my twelve days there.
Example 1 - Around 9 pm of day-1, I asked for a TV remote controle because the one in the room was broken, the manager said he would be back in a few minutes. He never came back.
Example 2 - Internet usage is the most expensive in town. 100 Mozambicans Meticals per hour.
Example 3 - Breakfast from Mon-Friday is open from 7am to 9am, if you oversleep, you have to eat elsewhere.
Example 4 - Usually at 10 am the maids knock on your door to collect the used towels.
