Description: Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner, Nam Took is an Asian Restaurantin central Victoria Falls adding to the cosmopolitan cheerful buzz of tourists and locals who will be quick and eager to recommend this great restaurant. Located just 800m from The Falls, Nam Took is situated upstairs under a welcoming, cool and high thatch roof looking out over riverine bushveld and beyond, out to the Victoria Falls Spray rising up into sky. The restaurant serves authentic Asian and all dishes including are cooked to order. Chef's recommendations to diners include daily specials but the spring rolls and spicy Tom Yum Prawn Soup are firm local favourites.

My friend and I were wondering the main area of Vic Falls when we ran into some other tourists and asked for dinner advice, we are really grateful they sent us here.
Very random location, it's upstairs from an indoor market. We sat right along the railing edge and there was live local drummers outside who played the entire evening, or was fantastic. My friend is a Vegan and she's found it rather difficult to find restaurants that's properly adapt to her needs- but these people did and both of our meals were AMAZING.
Best part though- was our server, Onais. He was so kind, we asked him all sorts of questions about the area and the culture.
Highly recommend

We've tried a new place each of 4 nights --great meals to be had in Vic Falls and this is the best. Green and red curry chicken were terrific and the veg pad thai was unbelievable. Go.

My two visits to Nam Took were characterized by my own unfair advantage. I am a devotee of Thai food. My partner, who was with me, is Thai. You'd have to think there was a bit of a risk, going into a Thai restaurant in Zimbabwe. It could be really bad. We were not worried.

It turns out, we did not have to be worried. Nam Took (which is Thai for "waterfall") is an excellent Thai restaurant, much better than anyone could reasonably expect.

The restaurant is on the second floor of a small local shopping centre in the main tourist district. It is fairly large, probably seating 90-100 in a pinch. The decorations are Thai-appropriate, and fit the ambiance of a good quality restaurant.

Khun Toy, the owner, met us when we arrived the first time around lunchtiime. A lively conversation in Thai ensued. It turns out, that day was her 70th birthday, and in her honour that evening many local business people and others were descending on the restaurant for a party. (When you go, ask her to tell her story of how she ended up running a fine restaurant in Zimbabwe.)

Our lunch was excellent. The next day, when we went back for dinner, it was just as good. Khun Toy, the head chef, showed no ill effects of what was apparently a successful birthday party.

Now, understand that the four of us were a tough crowd. A Thai who knows great food. A professional sommelier with ten years of experience in the finest restaurants. A picky eater willing to try things. And myself, with (much!) more than ten years of experience eating the best Thai food.

We all agreed that the food was first class. One of our group said it was the best Thai food he had ever eaten. Others were equally complimentary. We went back a second time because we wanted more.

Service, also excellent. However, to be fair we probably got more attention from the owner that most patrons. While we saw her talking to everyone, we may have monopolized her a bit. Still, everyone else in the restaurant was smiling and happy, so it was clear they were happy with their service as well.

Honestly, I entered this restaurant expecting to be disappointed. The opposite was true, to my great surprise. What a find!

Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for your kind, positive and uplifting review. This is so motivating for Chef Toy and her staff.
I was privileged to attend the birthday party that evening, and although the restaurant was quite busy, Toy provided her 'guests' with a feast and was her usual charming and happy self.
We hope you make it back to Vic Falls and to Nam Took.
