Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Elephant's Walk Shopping and Artist Village is a vibrant mix of local artists, retailers, artisan studios, all working within in the cool tropical garden courtyard. The funky Africa Cafe serves delicious light meals and drinks whilst the Nam Tok Restaurant upstairs offer afro asian traditional foods. There is a museum which shows the material and visual culture of the peoples of the region - entry is free. Crocodile Cage diving can be experienced, a visit with out local Nyanaga (witchdoctor) or you can just sit under the palm trees and watch the world go by!

While I love that the rest of the centre is about supporting talented artists and the Zimbabwe culture...I was so sad and disappointed to see the exploitation of the crocodiles to make a few bucks off tourists! From what I saw 3 large crocs held in a small area and then released into a small 'holding' unnatural water tank for visitors to be lowered into so as to 'dive with predators'! In an area priding itself in it's unfenced parks to keep the environment as natural as possible this was a major let down...rather spend that money going into the parks.to see crocs in their natural environment...than held in enclosures for our thrills!

Thank you for your honest review on Elephant's Walk. Whilst we respect your opinion on the crocodiles, it is sad for our artists and Village that our Trip Advisor ratings will be lowered due to your low rating on our Village. Crocodile Cage Diving operations are separate to us and it would have been preferable if you could have rated them on their site rather than including them on ours! I will let them know your sentiments and will send them a copy of your review. I do hope you come to visit us again soon!

Our tour operator dropped us near by at a “tent filled with Vultures hawking their wares” and I soon left and walked up the street to the Elephant Walk and shopped in a relaxed atmosphere. I was impressed by the artist Moses Kalembela and purchased two pieces of his Scrimshaw art work. He also does pen and ink drawings. I found him and the other artists to be very pleasant.

Go and appreciate the crafts and craftsmanship. There is a great variety of items well displayed. My personal experience with two vendors wasn't re-assuring even though both were friendly and helpful. Mostly it had to do with the prices. High to begin with and still high after negotiating. I found identical items among the shops in town for considerably less. Definitely go and experience the outside display of crafts but beware the pricing. Also Three Monkeys is nearby. A great place for refreshments.

Good Day. Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. With regards to your experience with two of our artists (or was it possibly the small display of 'market' style goods as our artists do not generally sell to other shops,) is it possible that you could clarify this so that we can address the problem? We pride ourselves on promoting artists and artisans who actually work on site and visitors can deal directly with them. They may sometimes negotiate depending on financial situation, but the variances are not usually significant. Also, were you within the Elephant's Walk Village complex or at the large outside Curio Markets? Thanks for your feedback!

Some V interesting crafts and items for sale, if you don't like negotiating with vendors then this is for you. Prices are quite strong though. Must visit Ishumael Mhike's recycled trash sculptures, his work is brilliant and it's well worth supporting him.
