Despite we were with a tour group I would have expected higher quality of food (breakfast is even better in the garden cafe). Service is ok but would have expected warmer.

Wonderfully preserved British empire kitch of a place with +attentive waiters and a great food selection. We ate on a Thursday night and the place was surprisingly about 3/4s full..

We enjoyed our dinner here with a large group. Service was exceptional as was the food. There was lovely piano music through dinner and the setting was very elegant too. It felt very upscale and we had a very memorable evening dinner there.

The most wonderful dinner -- a real highlight eating experience with the very reasonably priced tasting menu. Fantastic, beautifully presented food accompanied by appropriate wines. Do it!

This is lovely restaurant with the potential for a great ambience and experience. We stayed at the hotel and ate at the restaurant. The degustation menu was excellent, the food was of a high quality, the service from Romeo and Marco was also excellent. Wines are expensive compared to South African prices with some bottles of wine being 3-4 times the price you’d pay in South Africa. Where this went wrong was how the restaurant was managed. We begin with half a dozen tables filled in what was a quiet sophisticated feel. This changed when 50-60 people walked in from the Rovos Rail tour and then another large tour group of American tourists. The Rovos Rail group were generally fine but the American tourists were loud and bawdy and had clearly been drinking, there had been a drinks reception next door. The pianist might as well have played ‘knees up mother brown’. This became intolerable and if we’d have known this is how this restaurant is used we would have avoided it. The dress code went out the window as well as many came in walking/hiking trousers. Such a shame and the restaurant should inform diners booking that large tour groups will be in the restaurant.
