After a long dirt road you arrive at Sendelingsdrift for a night. The next day it's 4x4 country and you will definately need it. Make sure you are well provisioned as there is no cell phone reception. I really like Kokerboomskloof camp site - with its huge rock sculptures and quiet desolate landscape.

If you visit in March just keep in mind that it is HOT (40 deg plus) and only cool down after the sun sets. BUT, De Hoop was infested with flies and gnats. Sheep and goat droppings everywhere contributing to the fly problem.

At Potjiespram we had these little black ants allover and could not wait to leave.

On our last night we stayed in Sendelingsdridt in a charlet to escape the heat. Very comfortable, but we had NO WATER and had to fetch water from the pool to flush the toilets. Electricity went off early morning and we decided to move on.

What an amazing trip this was for my hubby and me,we visited the Richterveld about 10yrs ago (April).....it was like walking on an exquisite blanket, there were cacti/succulents as the eye could see (we both love cacti & succulents, needless to say, we were in wonderland, unfortunately only the Koekerboom was in bloom, so for color its best to go in August)
We loved the solitude and swam for hours in the Orange River, we did not need our bathing costumes. The birds just about rested on my Hubbys toes while in the water.
Make sure to have your Sunblock, hat, a spade for toilet visits, drinking water, good hiking shoes. We took along a 20L solar shower.
We really enjoyed the adventure and plan to do it again...
NB: It was April 2010....refer to date below as incorrect.

The most amazing place in South Africa. A real hidden gem of South Africa. Have to back soon to explore the park further. the best park in South Africa. We hired a driver and tour guide and that is the best way to see the place . The best trip of my life.
