What an amazing trip this was for my hubby and me,we visited the Richterveld about 10yrs ago (April).....it was like walking on an exquisite blanket, there were cacti/succulents as the eye could see (we both love cacti & succulents, needless to say, we were in wonderland, unfortunately only the Koekerboom was in bloom, so for color its best to go in August)
We loved the solitude and swam for hours in the Orange River, we did not need our bathing costumes. The birds just about rested on my Hubbys toes while in the water.
Make sure to have your Sunblock, hat, a spade for toilet visits, drinking water, good hiking shoes. We took along a 20L solar shower.
We really enjoyed the adventure and plan to do it again...
NB: It was April 2010....refer to date below as incorrect.

The most amazing place in South Africa. A real hidden gem of South Africa. Have to back soon to explore the park further. the best park in South Africa. We hired a driver and tour guide and that is the best way to see the place . The best trip of my life.
wish i had more time in the park but still a gem must visit

The remoteness of this park is one of the best things about it as you do not have lots of vehicles and people driving around. The scenery is something I will never forget and around each corner another amazing view awaits you. The unique plant life and rocky landscape is well worth the long and very arduous journey to get there. The roads are rough - very rough but it is such a spectacular park. We did not see much in the way of animals, we saw a few birds nearer to the river.

I lost a part of my heart in the Richtersveld during the 2016 Richtersveld Transfrontier Wildrun. 48 of us started in Sendlingsdrift and 200 Km later ended at the Ai-Ais Hot-spring resort in Namibia. The terrain is rugged and harsh and its surprising that anything survives there, but if you look closely (and use the information provided each night by a SANParks guide) you are sure to spot the most incredible plants and goggas. Some were fortunate or unfortunate enough to spot scorpions, wild horses, zebra and snakes, some of us saw less wildlife, but plenty of leopard spore and zebra tracks/trails. You are so insignificant in the vast landscape. If you're thinking of going, don't hesitate, and be sure to include the Tatasberg...."Ek overlang baie"
