“A beautiful, peaceful place to stay”

I stayed at the Riad Medina in Fez for 6 nights in mid-June, when the temperature was nearing 40 degrees, much hotter than the average for June, and it was not just a luxury, but an absolute necessity to have a plunge pool to cool off in after sightseeing. The pool at this Riad is very inviting, especially as it is set in a garden where you can sit under trees alive with birdsong - you'd never believe you were in one of the largest cities in Morocco. It is located well off the beaten tourist track, yet close to the major sights including the tanneries. Although it is within the pedestrian-only Medina, it is only a short walk to get a bus or a taxi, so actually, very convenient for getting around. I was given a beautiful room, which looked out over the garden and pool, and I was more than happy to be woken by the birds. The breakfast was excellent, and kept me going all day, and I was well looked after by the staff. A word of advice to anyone going to Fez: get a map of the Medina before you leave and study it! Or if you're staying at this Riad, print out the information pack before you leave - sadly, I didn't, so it was my own fault I kept getting lost - hardly surprising as there are more than 9000 streets and alleys in the Medina - and I didn't really work it all out until the day I left, so you have been warned!

“A beautiful, peaceful, well located house in the Medina.”

We wife and I, with our two young daughters, plus two other couples rented the entire house for a week. It was a delightful experience. The house is lovely, and well located. Yusuf, the caretaker, and Huriyyah, the housekeeper, were both friendly and effective. Yusuf helped to arrange some excursions, and with other practical matters, while Huriyyah kept the house clean and orderly and furthermore cooked some fantastic meals for us (breakfast was included, but dinners were on request). I hope one day to repeat the experience.

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely little Riad (the photos make it look a lot bigger!). It is hidden away in a maze of alleyways but luckily it was easy to arrange for Youseff the housekeeper to come and meet us and walk us there. The breakfasts were very tasty and gave us a good start to the day. We were able to arrange a great tour through a friend of the Riad, definitely worth doing if you're a little nervous as we were with it being our first time in Morocco!

“A quiet but tired retreat from the Fez medina”

We loved Fatima the gorgeous housekeeper who made our stay as comfortable as possible but she could only do so much. The rooms were very dark and the bathrooms really really need a makeover and a good scrub. The riad looks good at night. But very tired by day.

Julie the manager, got back to us promptly by email on all our questions. Her manager was kindly waiting for us outside the medina when we arrived. I know we would have had difficulties had she not made these arrangements for us . A guide was kindly arranged for us through the riad. The breakfasts were great and got us to the other end of the day.

Management Response
10 Oct 2013
Thank you for your kind comments about the staff, they really do try to make our guests feel welcome.
Riads are built with small windows to reduce the scorching summertime heat and therefore they do limited the natural light within the rooms; we try to compensate by having ample lamps to provide additional artificial light.
Regarding the bathrooms ..... I stayed in the Jacuzzi room myself two days after you departed and, I do concur with your comments. Due to the age of the Riad (over 400 years old) it is in need of constant tlc. We do have a "rolling programme" of refurbishments and .....I'm please to say that the bathroom has already been scheduled for redecoration during winter 2013.

We booked the whole Riad for our family (6 adults and 2 teenagers) and we all enjoyed the experience of being part of the Medina. The service was excellent, the Riad was always clean and tidy.
