The disappointing thing about this tour is not what we did or didn’t see, but the way they conduct the tour. We did the full day tour which included 5 different snorkeling spots, which all the tour ops do. Here-Expect the bare basics. Lunch served on the boat with styrofoam clamshells, water in plastic bags, and a tight schedule. The crew weren’t concerned nor equipped to deal with anyone with problems. Another guest scraped his toe on the dry rotted fins they provided and was bleeding. The staff was unconcerned. The staff also made culturally insensitive remarks about one of the ethnic groups on the island implying that all they care about is money. After this experience I would say the same about this operation.

Overall, our experience with Anwar was very good. My boyfriend and I went on the full-day Hol-Chan Marine Reserve Tour with Anwar Tours. We really enjoyed our tour, saw manatees, a moray eel, nurse sharks, rays, turtles, barracuda, and more! Was fantastic! Our guide was excellent - especially when he joined us in the water at one of the four stops. He was finding and pointing out all kinds of marine life, explaining it to us, and even free diving with our cameras to get better photos/videos! We wish he had joined us in the water for the other three stops! This we recommend to the team at Anwar to do for future trips.

Our other recommendation is to improve the included lunch: Anwar had picked up our meal in the morning and it sat out in the sun while we snorkelled... We were a bit worried but didn't get sick or anything. My boyfriend got the rice and beans with stewed chicken, which he said was "OK". I got the veggie "burger"... but there was no burger... It was a bun with a slice of cheese and sauce – that’s it! LOL (It was obviously pretty bland!) We have been on other full-day snorkel tours where we were taken to a beach for a full BBQ lunch, and that is what we were hoping for, but we got bland take-away food. However overall, the tour with Anwar was very good.

don't book manatee tours in winter (November to may), very few to see !!
"they are too shy" they will tell you...

plus, snorkeling equipment very old and poor quality compare to others tours (like caveman)

however the team was friendly

There’s so many snorkelling trips to choose from in Caye Caulker, but me and my girlfriend were fortunate enough to stumble on Anwar.

Our driver/guide Omar took us out on our own, on what was basically a private tour. We visited some great spots on the reef. Omar often got in the water to show us different types of fish. His knowledge was superb, and he obviously cares a lot about protecting the reef and wildlife.

We were exposed tons of sharks and stingrays. There must have been 30+ nurse sharks around the boat... and we got in the water to swim with them. It was a pretty scary — but amazing — experience. People from other trips were swimming to our boat because that’s where all the action was!

We met a bunch of very disappointed scuba divers in town the next day that hadn’t seen one single shark after an expensive full day trip! One look at our videos and they booked a snorkelling trip with Anwar the next day.

This is the trip for close-up exposure to sea life.

I can’t recommend this trip enough. Our guide was so amazing at giving us info about the marine life in the water and reassuring us that we could swim with the nurse sharks and sting rays.

We visited different sites of the barrier reef, but the real highlight was when we swam with the sharks. As we arrived, they started gathering around the boat - it was scary at first but once they were being fed, you could dive in, and it was amazing. Our guide even dived down and bought up a sting ray for us to touch!!

We also got to feed some enormous tarpons - watching them jump out the water was incredible.

This isn’t a booze cruise/party boat, it’s purely to do with marine life and it was an experience we will never forget.
