We just returned from San Pedro. The first time we went was in 2008 and it has grown a lot since then. We chose Xanadu because it was a little removed from the center of town but still close. We heard that San Pedro had built up quite a bit and that was true - it was nice to be a little removed from the chaos of vendors and golf cart traffic jams. The property is beautiful and the pool is a nice touch. We used the free kayaks and bikes. The staff also helped to arrange a full day Caye Caulker/snorkel trip and a fishing trip for us. Both were great. It was also a nice touch to be able to order cocktails and beers from the activity desk. We'd highly recommend Xanadu!

Room tip: All rooms are good choices - even the pool view still has some views of the beach

We stayed at Xanadu in March 2015 following a week at Hopkins. We were in a loft suite with a spiral staircase up to the bedroom, and the room itself was beautiful and well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We could quite easily have cooked every meal in the room (ingredients purchased from the nearby supermarket), but we ate out every night at one of the many excellent restaurants. For breakfasts there was The Baker shop just outside the gate, which provided filled breakfast rolls, and the best cinnamon rolls we have tasted anywhere.
The staff we met, especially the reception staff, were always helpful and knowledgeable. We were able to book golf carts through them, which are a lot of fun and essential if you want to see more of the island, and very useful for getting to slightly more out of the way restaurants. Also the reception staff are able to point you in the right direction for the best dive operators for your requirements and experience, and my husband found the diving on the second biggest barrier reef in the world to be first class.
The local area is under development, which did spread down onto the beach in places, but the pool at Xanadu was lovely so this was not a problem.
We found the Belizean people to be friendly and not yet jaded by tourism. In all a very worthwhile, different and interesting trip.

Room tip: The loft suites overlooking the pool and sea are the best.

Xanadu was quite lovely but there really is not much to do on Ambergris Caye. However, all the employees at Xanadu were really quite accommodating and the daily
housekeeping is great. Recommend snorkeling if you are ever at Ambergris Caye.

This resort.
My husband and I made our first trip to Belize in April 2015. We spent three days in the Cayo District and three nights on San Pedro. Our three nights in San Pedro were spent at Xanadu.
A short walk from downtown San Pedro, Xanadu offered all of the amenities of home. Our room had a full kitchen and a living room. From the moment we arrived were greeted by the incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Our room looked right out to the water. There was a dock, which is where we were picked up for our snorkeling tour. They had a great pool.
The front desk closes (around 7, I think). So make sure to get beach/pool towels and beer before that.
Our room was incredibly quiet. We were very close to the pool and didn't hear any noise at night.
We were very pleased with the resort and everything that was included with our package.

Also, there's a cat who lives at the resort. He lounges around near the front desk. Very cute.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Xanadu. It is a quiet little oasis- very well kept grounds, ultra-friendly staff, gorgeous pool & ocean view. We would absolutely go back again. Perfect place to decompress.
