We stayed in a large king room with a jacuzzi tub flat screen TV and both wired and wireless internet. The beer joint (Street Side Ale House) at the south end of the hotel was excellent. We had a long chet with the woman behind the desk about the history of the hotel. It seems that it was not a restoration per se. There were just 2 partial walls left of the original hotel. The hotel was built anew to accurately reflect the styling etc. of the original. Whoever built this did an excellent job. Will definitely stay here anytime we're in the area.

Room Tip: We we're in a 3rd floor rear king room. Very quiet and they have an excellent elevator for us old guys.

Loved the old time feeling you get when entering and the grand furnishings. The lobby was gorgeous but could have used some flavored water available or a coffee bar. The room was clean and spacious....bathroom had a jacuzzi tub which we enjoyed after site seeing all day. The closet had a light which went on every time you opened or closed the door....nice. Would have been nice if they stocked the fridge with water, juices and or sodas....we had to go down the street to Klem’s convenience store to get drinks for the room. They have a soda machine near the lobby but it was expensive and didn’t stock drinks we liked. Over all we enjoyed our stay but with a few additions this hotel could really be Grand!

Clean, Beautiful and welcoming hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful with fantastic tips of the area. This small town is quaint and feels welcoming. The rooms are large for a hotel of this era. Well taken care of. Parking is across the street but the town is safe and small. Town hall a block away looks like the Town hall from the movie Back to the Future. Beautiful library at entrance, and grand furnishings. I enjoyed a Jacuzzi tub in the marble bathroom. Shower had great pressure for an original hotel and the bed was comfortable with luxurious bedding. The Bakery next door was enjoyed by my sister. Fresh decadent baked croissants and muffins. (I am celiac so I was only smelling the treats sadly) I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay again given the chance.

When Californians travel our diverse state, in my case from North (SF) to South (Long Beach) we often seek out the opportunities to visit historic aspects of our state, be it the Missions that dot the landscape or the early vestiges of civility that grew in our young state. The Carlton is a throw-back to those early days emulating the best that the East had to offer in a landscape that was often rugged and untamed. The Carlton is this type of historic gem, with well restored amenities and delightful staff. I wish we could have stayed more than one night and hope to return again.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of amenities and overall comfort of our recent stay at The Carlton Hotel in Atascadero. We stayed in a Vintage King room facing the back of the hotel (room 209), where it was very quiet. The bed was firm but comfortable with very nice linens. The bathroom was spacious and the shower had fantastic water pressure. There is a conveniently located bakery and coffee shop next door, which offers tasty muffins, croissants, baguettes, oatmeal and fresh fruit. There is also a very good restaurant (oddly named, the "Nautical Cowboy") adjacent to the lobby with a a decent wine list and varied menu. We enjoyed our 2 night stay and recommend this hotel to other visitors to the Paso Robles/SLO area.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms are at the back of the hotel (facing east). Though soundproofed, front facing rooms may get muffled road noise from Hwy 101.
