This is a local French restaurant in the Brookland area of the city near the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the Catholic University. Brookland is a trendy and transitional neighborhood away from the city center with lots of new places to eat.
Primrose is a “diamond” in the rough with a very pleasant ambiance, great service and superb food and wonderful ostrich feathers ceiling lamps, clean tables and decor.
Although they bill themselves as a “wine bar” they have a full bar although they only have “off brands” liquor that are very good but not well known to non-connoisseurs.
It’s menu it’s “very French bistro” and everything I have tried there has been superb.
From the tuna rillette to pate de campagne for appetizers to the fabulous poulet roti and the not to be missed steak frites and many other typical French bistro dishes. If you are not into French fare try their hamburger with French fries which is superb.
If you are visiting DC this place is worth the trip away from the city center to have a god meal.

Upon entry already one is enchanted by the "shabby chic" Parisian bistro decor. Very minimal ans oh so chic !!! The service was super friendly. The menu is concentrated on a dozen or so main courses which were made to perfection; as least ours were. My eyes lite up upon tasting the duck pate with its raspberry confiture ! Nouvelle cuisine size servings which was quite appropriate because it was definitely about quality not quantity!!

We greatly enjoyed our visit to Primrose. On a humid and hot early evening, we began our visit with a refreshing Rose Cremant, and shared the tasty Rillettes de Truite Fumée and Gnocchi Parisienne as appetizers. Among our main dishes, the Poisson Rôti and the Canard a l'Orange both were excellent. The food demonstrated careful preparation and attention to quality ingredients, and prices are modest for this type of establishment --overall, a very good deal. The place buzzes and is rather loud, so having a conversation can be difficult (unless sitting at one of the outside tables). Service could have been a bit smoother (e.g., we often wished for a bit more information on some of the dishes), but we hope to find further improvements in future visits.

nice staff, opened by veterans, a welcome addition to my 'hood. The coq au vin in white wine was great. LOVE the french onion soup. The kids menu is healthy. And of course as a French spot the fries are done well. Love the vibe and that they make it a very hip, continental place

Went looking for a quaint and quality French spot for family dinner on Easter. Primrose is outstanding and patronized by the locals from the neighborhood which says it's good! Steak Frites are sizeable portion with the frites every bit as good as any in Paris or Bruxelles. Rillettes du lapin as a starter highly recommended. We will be back.
