One of our favorite places we ate breakfast at in Budapest. Such a beautiful building inside and out.

We had read about the New York Café in a guide book and wanted to visit. Upon arrival we were shown straight to a table by our waitress (we luckily didn't have to queue, but when we were leaving a queue had started to form). As soon as you walk into the building you are struck by how strikingly beautiful the décor is, everywhere you look there is something to wonder at. In the background you can hear classical music being played by a group of musicians. Once seated our waitress brought the menu's and we both chose the Goulash soup and I had the apple pie for dessert. Though we kept our meal light there was plenty of choice on the menu for those with a bigger appetite. The food and drinks that we had was very nice and reasonably priced for such opulent surroundings. Staff were friendly and polite and food was served in a reasonable time (don't mind waiting as long as food is hot). All the while there you can't help looking at the surroundings. Would Definitely recommend if visiting Budapest.

Looking at the place, of course it's expensive. It's worth visiting, though, because it's beautiful! We made reservations online in advance, which I think helped because we had a really nice table. We ordered breakfast and sat enjoying our tea while a quartet played classical music. It's was a nice way to treat ourselves. Very pricey, though, and you get very small portions. I think if I were to go back I would just get a pastry because a main breakfast meal was not worth the price.

The line to enter was mixed with reservations and walk ins and the hostess took a long time to acknowledge any of us. It felt very Darwinian, whoever pushed to the front and spoke loudest was seated.
The building is ludicrously beautiful and definitely a must-see. The food was disappointing, great look and terrible taste. I'd recommend going for great photos and breakfast or dessert/cocktails
