Description: What can you expect at Aszu? We strive to be what we set out to be: a purveyor of modern cuisine that understands it's sources, while gazing out from Tokaj upon the world. Where the wine list offers numerous special selections exclusively to our establishment. Where service means painstaking attention to courtesy in every detail... Where the artistically carved and gilded wooden interior plays an integral part in the concept, that will make your evening an unforgettable experience. Have our efforts been crowned with success? Excellent food and service. Haute cuisine Hungarian style. Two types of goulash, a soup and a thicker version that Americans consider a braised short rib style

Aszu was an unexpected surprise. We were looking for a restaurant for lunch for the following day (our last few hours in Budapest) and on the basis of the menu posted outside and a short conversation with the hostess, we made a reservation. We had a nice meal here and because of the early hour, we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. We enjoyed our meal, but the best part was the genuinely entertaining conversation we had with the waiter. Also, they have a nice wine list, and the waiter brought us several to taste until we found the one we wanted.
All the dishes were tasty and well prepared, we had marinated trout, a main of grilled trout, and a lovely dish of goose breast. All in all, a very nice lunch.
As for the name, “aszu” is one of the best known types of the famous Hungarian sweet wine called “Tokaji”.

Great restaurant with modern take on local food. They also have an outdoor seating area on the street. Would recommend to book a table, especially in the weekends. They had a live band playing jango jazz type of music (We went on a saturday, not sure if this is everyday). The restaurant is located in an lovely older building (noise level might therefore be bit high for some, but we had a table in the back corner which was perfect).

Since the hotel helped us get a table, the manager managed to surprise us with birthday cake and song. They turned off the light and the whole restaurant ended up clapping along. Staff were overall friendly.

Make sure you try the Tokaji. Our waitress paired it perfectly with our dessert. We also got tips on where to get hold of the wine to bring back home. A lovely evening, and well worth the money. (Overall prices are a bit higher than the average restaurant in Budapest).

Authentic food, fabulous wait staff, beautiful setting! We enjoyed every minute of it. The traditional pork and potato dish was a hit. Four out of the five of us ordered this and all had completely clean plates. The fifth had a fabulous risotto that was simple but delicious. For an appetizer we had a cheese tray. It was the best cheese I have ever eaten!
