Really interesting synagogue - the 2nd biggest in the world (New York bigger). Very attractive but also moving commemorations to those who were killed in WW2

We had read online that this was Europe’s largest Synagogue (the second largest in the World) and when you see it, the views are overpowering.

We were unable to get inside as the closing time had just occurred, but from what we did see it was just remarkable. A beautiful building hidden at the south of the Jewish quarter.

We are hoping to pop back and see what the sights are like inside!

Such sadness, such terror and yet this was a nice place to visit. They offer multi language information sessions inside the Synagogue and then a short outside tour. Or you can wander yourself. To stand at the 24 mass graves and consider what happened to people is meaningful to say the least. This was a bit of a last minute thing for us but so glad we did the visit.

The Fohany Street synagogue is a must see for those with an interest in Jewish history. The 2nd largest synagogue in the world draws you into its vast space, modestly decorated but with a very impressive organ. Once you venture outside, you begin to appreciate the impact that the synagogue had at its peak whilst you walk through the memorial garden and the tree of life.
