Owner description: The most significant square of historical Prague, it was founded in the 12th century and has been witness to many historical events. In addition to the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the square is dominated by the Baroque Church of St Nicholas, the Rococo Kinský Palace, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell and the monument to Jan Hus. In the pavement of the square are memorial stones marking the execution of 27 Czech lords in 1621, and the Prague meridian.

And always found a new item to look at or be amazed by. It seems to have several different personalities, the before 10 AM quiet side, the 11 AM busy and frantically paced side. This continues until just after 9 PM as much as I can remember. Then happens again the next day. So many shops, not the high end, they are over in another area, but some very touristy ones that I cannot possibly see how they sell anything, I would not buy it, certainly. But selling they are, people in the aisles, going back and forth, to and fro. It was a shame the their famous clock was behind green netting undergoing restoration. Did find a store selling great postcards of it. Now what did I just say about it.
Major point of transportation and commerce.

Thank James W

Fun to walk around, but very touristy. Though, we were lucky to catch a free dress rehearsal of a ballet in the open stage in the evening that was wonderful.

When in Prague you should visit the town square. We knew the clock would be undergoing restoration during our visit but it was still disappointing that we missed it! The square is huge and offers many restaurants and shops within the square and on the many winding alleys surrounding it. If you go off the square it is easy to get lost as the alleys turn and there are church towers everywhere so you think you know where you are, but not so easy without your phone. The Jewish Quarter near the square was quieter and really interesting.

It is a great place to go and people watch. It is disappointing though because the clock is under construction. Great ham and beer in the square, but beware of the price because it is by weight and it's yummy but pricey.

Was there at easter when they had an Easter Market, there were lots of food and drink stalls as well as craft stalls. Beautiful architecture everywhere with little roads leading off to lots of restaurants and shops
