Prague has one of the best transit systems in Europe.

For less than €1 you can get almost anywhere in the centre of town. €1.25 for longer trips. It includes the Metro, trams, buses, water taxis, trains and cable cars.

Can't beat it!

In Prague metro you can se a real communist retro design, every stop is designed differently and every line is from different time, i liked it a lot, also the metro goes every couple minutes, I wish it would be the same at home.

We got stuck at night some stop running ...and they close the station !!
We got out of station and found hotel to have them call us a taxi....AAA taxi is honest and safe, but you must tell them when you call- if you want to use a credit card and what kind of credit card and you have to tell them . If you ave have a pet.

Just want to caution other visitors to Prague NOT to commit the same mistake i did with ticket validation and maybe the local authorities come up with a fool proof visitor pass similar to the oyster card in London. After seeing so many many other similar posts going back many years, surely there’s a better way.

We bought 3 days metro pass so we did not have to worry about transportation at a machine around the baggage claim area.

Mistake 1 : Just having visited London and using the Oyster visitor card, the machine you validate with (or tap in/out) turns from Yellow to Green indicating “ approval” , the validation in Prague only has yellow light and insert your ticket, light actually turns off while its printing the ticket ( you will hear the printing sound). Light turns yellow again for next person after printing. My mistake was doing it a second time thinking i did not do it right ( this invalidates the ticket , so we are told)

Mistake #2 Once our 3 day ticket had been validated in the bus at the airport , we inserted the ticket again before entering the Metro, which was adding to the invalidation and prints over the first bus validation. Turns out a pass needs to be inserted & validated once and only once thought the bus, metro, funicular and tram system. It’s an easy mistake to commit. In Paris, the pass has to be inserted every time, metro, bus or funicular etc.

I hope others don’t commit the mistakes we did and cost us $30 of 2 useless 3 day passes which were not used past one metro stop and a hefty 1600 czech crowns & the unpleasant way the ticket checkers took our passports until we paid on the spot.
I wished i had seen the many many other similar posts like mine going back many years before visiting Prague.

I certainly will not disrespect other countries rules & regulations, but maybe the local authorities can come up with a fool proof card for visitors who just aren’t familiar with how things work. It’s very unpleasant to be treated like criminals for such minor unaware mistake by visitors.

The Metro in Prague was super easy & fun to use and navigate and this is even though everything, as in most of the signage, is in Czech!

There are only three lines so everything is pretty easy to figure out. Plus it seems a lot less crowded than the trams and buses above ground.

An added bonus for me personally was the Soviet era architecture and interior design of the stations and facilities underground and also of the stations which was really cool.

A great way to get around Prague!
