What a beautiful place. G.M. Duncan is very caring toward the guests & he gives excellent service. Nothing is too much for the staff & they go the extra mile.
The food, service & ambience is excellent.
I will be back soon.
If you haven't been there make a plan.

Wow, wow, wow is all I can say. We spent 1 night on the 17th October. What a treat. We were the only guests. The hotel had hosted a wedding over the weekend. The breakfast of eggs benedict / Salmon is highly recommended.

Visited Hartford house in August with 4 girl friends as it was our annual night away from the families to unwind and catch up, lunch was great but dinner was disappointing as the food was good but our light hearted dinner conversations were continuously interrupted by a wine company trying to promote their wines. Needless to say the wine company Came with a very rude bunch of people who actually shhhh ! Our table! Very poor service from Hartford house in this respect as we look forward to our one night away , take off our mom hats and relax with friends. We certainly didn't want to be apart of the wine promo but were forced into it and to be paying 600zar pp for a dinner that was not the atmosphere we were seeking.

My wife and I had a delicious lunch at this lovely establishment some years ago, and had always hoped to spend a night there. We were warmly greeted and shown into a large suite, once occupied by General Louis Botha, the first Prime Minster of South Africa. It was extremely comfortable and well heated and there is also an open fireplace in the room, which we did not need. We had an excellent lunch and then had a walk around the lake. That evening we were treated to a 5 course meal with wine pairings . In the morning, after a brilliant breakfast, we reluctantly departed. From the time of arrival to our departure we were looked after extremely well by a dedicated and capable staff. Hartford House is not cheap, but excellence of this nature seldom is. Highly recommended. TonyC Hilton

We stayed three nights with our baby in a Pool View Suite. The room was beautifully presented and looked out over the gardens. It was perfect for the three of us. We went for walks, did a tour of the adjacent horse stud and were pampered at the spa. The breakfast was absolutely delicious - and we even had a picnic in the grounds that was very special! However, the absolute stand out was the five course degustation dinner! This is true fine dining!! The first night we ate in a specially made up table with our baby, the next two nights we felt comfortable to leave our baby with the very competent babysitters whilst we ate (only about 50m away from our room). What a special, relaxing experience. The staff were so lovely!
