We spent a night at hartford with our two daughters. From reception to being taken to our rooms, which were sincerely lovely, to just feeling at home, we had a great evening.
The food for the evening was set meal. If you are booked into the hotel you are automatically booked in the restaurant. The set price approx is R500 pp. this is for a 5 course meal. The meal superseded all expectations!

Hartford house has something special about it. I'm not sure whether it's because it is steeped in history or because the staff are so wonderful but it has something special you don't find at other accommodation.

The food really is great. The breakfast is fabulous because everything is homemade and delicious. It will also keep you full until 2pm. The five course dinner is a special affair.

The tour is a must! We weren't going to do it and last minute decided to and it was a highlight of the whole trip

Walks around the property are another must. It's a huge property and you really must take advantage of it and walk the grounds they are incredible.

The downside was I feel the property does need maintenance, especially some of the rooms (ours was 9) but the manager was very understanding and explained they are aware and listened to our concerns so when booking a room ask if it has ben renovated.

Winter is also incredibly dry- I think spring or summer probably best time to visit.

We got married 10 years ago at Hartford House, so it made sense to celebrate our 10th anniversary where it all began.
The two nights we spent at Hartford were just not enough. The staff from the minute we arrived were friendly, the rooms or suite in our case was immaculate, the views were stunning and the food was a whole other story.

Certainly the highlight of our stay was the food. Dinners were a 3 hour extravaganza of mind blowing dishes. I could explain each dish I great detail but will simply add that it's an experience not to be missed
We will be back, hopefully this time it won't take 10 years

We had a 3 night stay at Hartford House as part of a 3 week tour around KZN. We stayed in a garden suite, which was full of original character and charm. The hotel is set within the grounds of the Summerhill Stud and there are horses and paddocks in every direction. We were able to enjoy a tour of the stud and several wanders through the grounds and could have easily spent longer here.
There is a friendly and relaxed formality at Hartford and we can't thank Duncan and his front of house team enough for going out of their way to make our stay memorable. The food during our stay was exquisite. We couldn't fault the tasting menu served each night and the breakfasts were extra special - a cut above anything else we had during our stay in South Africa. A wonderful stay.

It's all due to every hotel and guesthouse being full to capacity, that we had no other option but to go to Hartford House. From the moment we arrived untill we left the next day, everything were just perfect and special. Breakfast in itself was an experience. The grounds, gardens and stables are all kept in an impeccable manner. Luckily for us they had a cheaper room situated in the main building tthar we could afford.
