“No need to look further ...”

Look, we trawled through the internet for accommodation in the Blue Mountains looking at places (just as you are doing now) where we wouldn't even send our respective parents, then found Holly Lodge.

Sometimes you just know --like when I first saw the misses --that a perfect match has been found and Holly Lodge did not disappoint.

Just turning into the driveway and heading up to the Lodge was reminiscent of a cabin in Whistler I stayed in many years ago, it was like returning to the Rockies, and the kids were desperately trying to unbuckle their seatbelts to see what was inside.

Secluded and away from other properties you notice the privacy as soon as you step out of your car, surrounded by tall pine trees, gently swaying in the breeze.

Inside Holly Lodge, it has that roomy-yet-snug feel-factor that you do not get from usual holiday accommodation. This had the feel of a family welcome from the owners, a certain sense of pride for what they have achieved in their corner of the Blue Mountains and we were lucky to be sharing it with them.

It should be noted that the photo's online do not do Holly-Lodge justice. A cracking open fireplace (that we were able to light of an evening, while Sydney below us baked in 30C plus temperatures the weekend we stayed) was where we spent the evenings playing board games with the kids, sitting on the floor, legs crossed, feeling like children ourselves.

The kitchen is more than accommodating for the family chef, with every utensil known to a restaurant kitchen at your fingertips and with a gas cooker it was perfect. The unique kitchen bench has been handcrafted from a large cut of wood and helps retain that large log-cabin feel.

Three bedrooms downstairs with ample room, extremely comfortable beds and cupboard space to hang your clothes was more than enough, yet the upstairs 'loft' room was where it was all happening.

We hardly saw the children, except for meal times and car trips as they played away up there, pretty content in their little fantasy worlds.

It should also be noted that there is free wi-fi at Holly Lodge and a vast collection of movies, catering for all genres, as well as Stan TV that was a given to keep the kids entertained when upstairs had worn them out.

It's a cliché I know, but this is a corner of this country that is perfect for the traveller with the rat-race 1km below.

If you want a clean, welcoming place to stay then we highly recommend staying here. We've stayed in the Blue Mountains twice before and can't believe we missed it.

Whether you have a family, or not, just book Holly Lodge. Just do it. You will not be disappointed.

The kids were talking about when we would return to their “holiday house” on the long drive back to Newcastle. I told them it wouldn't be too far away.

Holly Lodge was a terrific place to base ourselves for a good look at the Blue Mountains. Warm and comforting with lots of homey extras, and in a fantastic location. We felt very blessed to be able to spend a week there.

“Really comfortable, cosy and lovely”
Reviewed 18 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

The lodge is very pretty and well-laid out with a large garden and plentiful outdoor furniture to use if the weather had been warmer. The hosts were very obliging in all ways and we loved the little touches like a complimentary miniature bottle of champagne and chocolate and marshmallows. As suggested in the manual, the combustion stove was a more efficient heater than the open fire, which made the upstairs area quite over-bearingly hot and stuffy.
Kitchen utensils and equipment were very generous and good quality, but serving platters of sorts would have been helpful for the Christmas dinner in July that we had. Overall we really loved it and would happily go back again and appreciated the fact that the hosts did everything they could to ensure our stay was a good one.

“Absolutely Fantastic!”

Of all the places we have stayed and all the reviews i have made for Trip Advisor, this has to be the best. Why stay at a motel when you can stay at this beautiful cottage. The owners are great and so helpful in ensuring your stay is perfect. the house itself is lovely. Huge fire place, parents retreat upstairs, nice bathroom, and wonderful grounds for the kids to explore. The kids can make as much noise as they like, there are no neighbours close by to annoy. Its a short drive into Katoomba, 40min from Jenolan Caves and 50min to Bathurst.
Lovely well appointed kichen, comfy beds, the place is just superb.
Do yourself a favour, if you are heading to Katoomba, a stay at Holly Lodge wont disappoint.

“Great Weekend at Holly Lodge”

We have stayed at Holly Lodge twice previously. This stay 2 other couples and a child came with us. Everyone loved the place. The room with all those toys was truly helpful. Our little friend thoroughly enjoyed herself. It was great to have the fireplace and the airtight stove. We enjoyed a great Thanksgiving weekend and the roast turkey we prepared was delicious. Appliances and equipment all worked very well. We made good use of the stereo. It took us a while to get the dvd player to play the dvds we brought but it did work in the end. They might want to update that equipment. Loved the birdlife. Easy to walk around the neighbourhood. It is a quick drive to places like the 3 Sisters and Govett's Leap. Thanks again Holly Lodge we will be back.
