Lovely cottage although we stayed in the plum cottage bed sit. Large enough room with king bed, bathroom with spa, small couch and tea coffee making facilities with bar fridge and micro wave. Wonderful balcony area overlooking the lake. Birdlife abounds, peacefull tranquil setting. Lovely romantic setting. Next time will rent the cottage with upstairs separate bedroom and downstairs living area for a bit more room.

Room tip: Pay the extra and get the bigger area.

Beautiful location for a quiet relaxed stay.

We stayed in Plum Tree Cottage and all the facilities were great.

Only negatives we could say were that it was the only accommodation we have ever stayed in that did not provide any milk for tea/coffee and no matches to light the fire. We arrived late on the Friday evening and would have loved to have been able to have a cuppa to sit by the fire but there was no milk and no matches and it was 10 kms back to nearest shop. I know it us Accredited Self Contained but still think it is nice to be able to have a cuppa when you arrive, there was tea, coffee and sugar but no milk.

Still I would highly recommend this venue, just remember to bring your own milk and matches.

I am sure this is a lovely property, however, we will never know, as the booking we made and received confirmation of was not honoured.

Yesterday morning, I made an enquiry about availability through the stay@paradisegardens.net.au address on their website. By the afternoon, I hadn't heard anything back, and as we needed to make a firm commitment to family, we went ahead with a reservation and booked and paid online. I received two emails, one confirming the reservation, and one confirming the credit card transaction.

Today I received a phone call responding to yesterday mornings email to say that the dates I enquired about yesterday were already booked out. To cut a very long and drawn out conversation short, I explained to the staff member that this was because I had already booked them through the online booking system last night. I asked him to check and confirm my reservation, and he said that I wasn't in the system, and the booking was listed for someone else. How could this be? I had already booked and received confirmation!

He then explained that there is a problem with the system that allows people to double book rooms. It was lucky that I asked him to check my booking, as we may not have known the room was double booked until we turned up at the property! Even if the error had been picked up and we had been warned, it may have been too late to make alternative arrangements. My partner and I have especially organised this time off, and it is not as simple as changing our dates as was suggested on the phone.

The bookings for this property are managed by an external organisation, not the business themselves. Even the phone number listed on the website for the property takes you through to the management group, rather than the owners of property direct.

This is a valuable reminder of the benefit in booking and communicating directly with the property owner, rather than relying on an organisation that manages bookings for them, as there is a greater chance that things will go wrong, as happened in this case. I didn't intend to book through a property manager, I found out about this property from my research on Tripadvisor, and thought I was emailing the property directly when I contacted them.

I don't think it is very fair to send people booking confirmations that have not actually been checked and 'confirmed' (as the word suggests), especially if there is a possibility that they might not actually be honoured! Our initial excitement has now been replaced with disappointment at missing out and frustration over having had our time wasted. We will have to start looking again for somewhere else to stay, although we will not be dealing with any 'Holiday Great Ocean Road' properties of course!

We apologise most sincerely for any disappointment you have experienced with your recent booking of our cottages. We have had Holiday GOR as our external managers for almost a year and to my knowledge, this is the first time we have had a problem of a double booking occur. Holiday GOR’s booking system is a very efficient one but we wanted to have our original booking system run concurrently with it and through no fault of Holiday GOR, it happened that an online booking was obtained by them only 20 minutes before your booking for the same cottage and dates came through on the other site. To solve this issue, we have made changes to our original booking system so that is more an enquiry (which goes through to Holiday GOR) than a confirmed booking. We believe this will prevent further problems. Again, our apologies for any inconvenience we may have caused you.

We stayed in the Twisted Willow Cottage for two nights in January 2014 and loved every minute. The cottage was very tastefully furnished and all the little comforts had been thought of, even instructions on how to ensure the reverse heating in the living room could be shared into the bedroom (it was chilly for January). Plenty of hot water in the shower with great water pressure. The bed was comfortable with nice linens. The kitchen had good quality pots and pans so cooking breakfast was a breeze.

The location was what made this place so special. A quick drive from Apollo Bay but felt like we were very far away. Very peaceful and quiet, the gardens were beautifully kept and the big pond out front with ducks were lovely to look out onto while sitting on the patio having a glass of wine.

Room tip: Twisted Willow Cottage is a one bedroom cottage on its own so privacy is ensured.

Paradise was worth our three-hour drive from Melbourne.
1. Beautiful view from the bed and even the bathroom!
2. Impressively clean.
3. Good value!

The only thing we could've wished for was more breakfast provisions to fulfil the 'breakfast' bit of B&B. But we'd definitely go back!
