We would highly recommend Mulryan’s. It was one of the best places we stayed on our trip of New Zealand and Australia. My wife and I stayed at the end of May and found the accommodations excellent. Their rooms are small, but very comfortable. The Magnolia Room has a very small private bathroom. The doors to the bathroom for the Magnolia Room have etched glass, which does not allow for complete privacy. But it was nice to have a bathroom in the room. The Rose Room does not have an attached bath. The bathroom is located across the hall, but is much larger and no etched glass on the doors.

Mulryan’s is located on a small farm. There are sheep, goats, donkeys, and chickens. The house and grounds are very well kept. It is truly a country home, as their name implies. It is a short drive (about 15 minutes) to downtown Whangarei.

No detail was overlooked on our stay. The rooms and the house were very clean and neat. Each room had a balcony and bathrobes were available. Tea, hot chocolate, and shortbread were available in the room. Milk and filtered water were provided in the refrigerator outside the room. Every evening they turndown our beds and placed a lavender sprig and chocolate on our pillows. They also turned on the heating pads for the bed (we stayed in late fall). They do have a pool and Jacuzzi which we did not take advantage of because of the time of year.

The breakfast in the morning was exceptional. The ingredients for their breakfasts were extremely fresh. We also had dinner in their dinning room on our first evening. Their dinning room has a fireplace and we dinned by candlelight. The meal started with parsnip soup, followed by a lamb shank with vegetables, and ended with chocolate moose and coffee. We also had an excellent bottle of wine with dinner. The parsnip soup was excellent, and I am generally not a big fan of parsnip soup. It was the best meal that we had on our trip.

If you are looking for a place that is within walking distance of many things, this is not the place for you. Most things are within a short drive. Mulryan’s is a very romantic and peaceful place. It was a great place to start our trip.
