“"Incidents In Time", Perfectly Unique & Absolutely Brilliant. Definitely Worth A Trip Up From Melbourne To Experience.”

Incidents In Time - Public Art Installation
Reviewed 12 July 2018

Time Lane is a slim, paved walkway connected to the Bridge Street Mall in the City of Ballarat and is home to one of the most wonderful art installations on public display in all of Victoria.
Fun, whimsical & absolutely perfect for entertaining adults & children alike you will find that you cannot help but smile at these 'tiny incidents' capturing delicate depictions of life in miniature.

Without a doubt these intricate sculptures are by far some of the most captivating & marvellous pieces we have ever been fortunate to view. Their small construct is in no way indicative of the impact that they have as they seem to burst forth from their surroundings full of life and demanding attention.

[ Let's Just Pop Back Briefly In Time & See Where This Began ]:
The year was 2011 & popular artist / sculptor Jason Waterhouse was commissioned by the City of Ballarat to create a Public Artwork for permanent residence.

Apparently he was not given a specific brief & the laneway was accessible solely to pedestrian traffic. These factors, combined with the lane being both very narrow & in a state of disrepair seem to have worked in Jasons favour & one can see how he ultimately used these constraints to his advantage.

There are twelve [12] scenes in all & surprisingly not all of them are so easy to spot straight up which was actually quite fun as we couldn't help but enjoy a small sense of child-like discovery each time another fabulous scene revealed itself to us.

Since learning of the display there was no doubting that this public art installation was worthy of a special trip to Ballarat just to see it, and so we did!

lt was a freezing cold night & pitch dark when we arrived at the Mall but with Time Lane fairly well lit we proceeded with our visit & thoroughly enjoyed the overall atmosphere created in this narrow space.
Whether you personally decide to visit day or night we are sure that you will be glad that you have taken a moment of your time to check out those so perfecty created by Jason.

Thank you for reading this review, we hope that it has been helpful. In this instance we have decided to post only minimal photographs so as to not 'ruin the surprise'.
