We came to Australia to visit our daughter, who is studying abroad at Newcastle University for the semester.
She suggested the three of us try The Exchange on Beaumont St. as she and her college friends come here often and love it!
They really like the burger specials along with the atmosphere here.
They were right! My wife and I had a couple of the special burgers and they were great! Very delicious and filling!
The service was quick as it didn't take long to receive our order.
A nice fun atmosphere made it a very enjoyable time for us...along with her friends from school as they just happen to come in while we were.
We loved it!

The Exchange Hotel maintains a quiet, family-friendly social establishment without doing much else to stand out from the crowd.

Attending for Mother's Day dinner, we were surprised to find only a handful of people enjoying a few drinks, watching the footy and only one other group sitting down for dinner. The numbers slowly grew throughout the night, however service was always prompt and the bar and wait staff were very attentive to everyone.

Goodtime Burgers is basically what the name says; a selection of excellent, filling burgers that are reasonably priced. They have a variety of burgers to suit everyone, from chicken and beef to a vegetarian option. The sides were reasonably priced and the loaded fries more than filled a gap while maintaining a unique and irresistible flavour.

Unfortunately, this is where the plaudits end as far as the food goes. I, myself, ordered the 300g Rump cooked Medium, only to find it nearly raw in the middle. The mushroom sauce ordered with it tasted nothing like authentic mushroom sauce and more like gravy with a couple of sliced mushrooms tossed in for good measure. The saving grace of the dish was actually the side of fries, which were some of the best I've had in a long time. Overall, the pricing was pretty fair, with the most expensive dish we ordered only costing $26 and we all left with pretty full stomachs even though some of us weren't quite satisfied with the quality of some of the food.

The drinks were a completely different story. Alcohol for the most part is reasonably priced, perhaps on the higher side of the pricing spectrum, but $13 for a jug of coke is absolutely ridiculous. Overall, more money was spent on the drinks for the night than was for the food and we only had 2/3 drinks each.

Overall, the experience was a mixed one. The atmosphere and service were absolutely fantastic, however, beyond the burgers there was very little on offer on the food/drink side of things. It seems as though the menu has been thought with the casual crowd in mind as opposed to those looking for a top quality meal. It's a nice enough place to come on a Sunday night when you're too lazy to cook, but in my opinion there's enough places to eat on Beaumont St alone that you could probably give The Exchange a miss and not go kicking yourself over it.

I have visited The Exchange a number of times.
The food from "Good Time Burgers" here is awesome!!
If you aren't scared to attack a mammoth sized burger in public then this is the place for you!

The staff have always been quite nice. The venue can get busy but the staff do their best to attend to all customers as quickly as possible.

It's easy to get to and has street parking all around it.

I would recommend this venue!

Gotta give Good Time Burgers a massive thumbs up for a magnificent feed last week
The Burgers were the best and also Tuesday night is buy one get one free for all main meals , the burgers aren’t on it as there good value as it is , but if you don’t want a burger you can have a cheap meal off the main menu
Highly recommended to have a meal here , we will be back , again and again and again
